From the DirectorMy first exposure to A Steady Rain was in 2013 when I saw the play in Galveston. The story was mesmerizing; I was stunned by the rawness of the script, and moved by the depth of the relationship between Joey and Denny. It left me sitting in my seat a few minutes after curtain call, processing what I had just witnessed. For me, the experience was about the two actors on stage contained within the four walls of the theater. Our production process began in September of last year when we presented the first scene of the play as a workshop for Theatre Southwest. Right away I knew that music was to play a major role; in fact, music was to be the third character. Collaboration with local artists is a foundational element of Dirt Dogs, and the score composed and performed by Hescher has brought the depth to this production that I was looking for. Opening this show, my thoughts have gone outside the playing space and into the society for which we now perform. I recognize that this play is very relevant to our current environment. We are all looking for common ground, for without it, we find it impossible to find peace. As you will see in the play, Denny’s story isn’t completely true, nor is Joey’s. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. I have taken personal responsibility as director to tell the story written by Keith Huff, and I offer each audience member their own experience and interpretation of the unfolding of events. My hope is that it also provides an open-door policy for discussion. Amazing things can happen when discussions take place with cool heads and warm hearts.

About the PlaywrightKeith Huff spent more than two decades working in the Chicago storefront theater community before the original production of A Steady Rain opened in 2007 at Chicago Dramatists. Following a second production at the Royal George Theatre a year later, it moved to Broadway in 2009 and starred Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig as Denny and Joey. According to Huff, the reality is that once two of the world’s biggest movie stars signed on to do the play–James Bond and Wolverine, no less—his professional prospects shot through the roof. Hollywood suddenly wanted a piece of what he had to offer. He joined the writing staff of Mad Men, which earned him a Writers Guild of America award in 2011. Another WGA was earned in 2014 for his work on House of Cards. Mr. Huff is currently working on the film adaptation of A Steady Rain for Barbara Brocolli (EON Films) and Steven Spielberg.

Hescher is CORY SINCLAIR; a cinematic pop musician and performer from Houston, Texas.

Hescher is no stranger to the theatre: having been a co-creator of Houston’s experimental rock band The Manichean and performing their album "Lovers" on stage at The Alley Theatre in 2012 and 2013, his background is littered with acting and singing rock music from adolescence.

“Who is Hescher?” asks Sinclair, “Hescher is my chance to share with others the beauty found in longing, in crafting music for your dreams; like wearing armor to bed.”

Hescher would like to thank Matt Adams, Justice, Sakura, Alejandro Sescosse and Thomas.

All music written by Hescher except for three songs during pre-show and two songs during the play. Those songs are “Cherry Waves” by Deftones, “House of Cards” by Radiohead, “Shelter” by The xx, and “Mr. Sandman” by Pat Ballard.
