Statement Philip László A

description

During the years 2007-2009 I have toured various Finnish landfills; been on all fours, crawled and climbed on mountains of waste piles with my camera around my neck. Landfills have been my personal challenges to conquer, my Mount Everest, my pilgrimage. The subjects that I shot during those years were all brought there to be recycled. I have gone as close as possible to my subjects, practically into the pores of the objects to photograph oil barrels, steel beams, cans of paint, details of wood, on their way to recycling. The images reflect the metaphor of our time, where people are treated as if they were to be recycled, disposable and easily replaced. Abandonment, being made redundant and humiliation are in my opinion as beautiful and precious as anything else; as any of us. Therefore, the side of the barrel glows as blue as the sky, metal reflects like stars, the dried red drops of paint signal a sign of hope and the iron thorn crown reminds us of the suffering of vanity.

I have gone as close as possible to my subjects, prac-tically into the pores of the objects to photograph oil barrels, steel beams, cans of paint, details of wood, on their way to recycling.
