''Theater has such an obvious connection to the emotions that it can awaken in people in a way that no other medium can. Other arts can be more abstract, but with theater you are dealing with communication between people; it has a unique key-into our emotional selves.'‘………. Marilyn Chris

RATIONALE

Researchers are turning up more and more new evidence of honey's medical benefits in all directions. The benefits of honey don't just stop at satisfying the palate; honey also offers incredible antiseptic, antioxidant and cleansing properties for our body and health, hot beauty and skin care tips for ladies, and amazing healing properties as a head-to-toe remedy, from eye conjunctivitis to athlete foot. Its powerful healing attributes have long been used thousands of years ago and known to promote healing for cuts, cure ailments and diseases, and correct health disorders for generations after generations.

The renowned UMF Manuka honey, perhaps the tastiest natural medicine, is commonly cited in many discussions on health benefits of honey. This honey not only fights infection and aids tissue healing but also helps reduce inflammation and scarring. In addition, it is often used for treating digestive problems such as diarrhea, indigestion, stomach ulcers and gastroenteritis. With more and more health experts and theories (such as the Hibernation Diet) supporting its benefits, this oldest natural sweetener just keeps getting better.

The company has been a long time dream of local Artist and High School Drama Teacher, Lisa Rachel Harris-Hampton, who is currently

employed with Jennings School District. During her career in Jennings School District as the High School Drama Teacher, Lisa committed her time to building a quality program that provided a positive arts experience not only for the students, but also for the

surrounding community. She teaches classes in acting, stagecraft, and public speaking. She works with the students intensely and

donates her own time and resources to help develop their performance and leadership skills.

She developed the Drama Department and solicited donations for furniture and clothing to stock the empty shelves of the Jennings High School dressing rooms. Students began to look forward to the Annual Fall Play, Black History Month Programs, and Spring Play productions and parental involvement increased. Now she has more furniture than

she can store and her shows are well known production of quality. The Drama Department has grown tremendously.

Without our services, hundreds of St. Louis area artists would be denied the opportunity to fully develop their creative capabilities, and emerging arts organizations — where the cultural fermentation that make our region so vital truly begins — would not have the peace of mind that allows them to concentrate on “dancing their dance.”

St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts (VLAA) connects artists and arts organizations of every discipline with accountants and lawyers who donate their time and expertise to help their appreciative clients navigate the complicated world of finance and law. We also provide information and skills training designed to help the arts community develop sound business practices.

Through VLAA, more than 300 accountants and lawyers offer counsel to artists and administrators who are asking for help in record numbers. Each year, our volunteers donate approximately $100,000 in pro bono services to the arts community.

Becoming a part of an SHTC production is more than just rehearsing for a show; we become a family - a home away from home, where children are encouraged to excel in school, while continuing to participate in an after-school activity in a safe, nurturing environment. SHTC is a fun after school program with a purpose. Our children’s musical theater program encourages each youth to become the best person they can be.
