Introduction

Hostway and its security partner, StillSecure, conducted a survey of customers to find out the state of Internet risk management among SMBs

in the United States.

Among their findings:

While 70% of survey respondents believed they would gain security expertise more quickly by using a 3rd party security provider, only 30% actually used an outside provider for any part of their security needs.

And although 70% of respondents handled their IT security completely in-house, only 21% of respondents had a method to evaluate their

infrastructure’s vulnerability.

While data protection appears to be an acknowledged need, businesses seem reluctant to use outside providers to enhance their security.
