A Sjogren's syndrome patient treated with implants: case report Connie Chi-Man Wong, DDS KUO GENERAL HOSPITAL 摘要 Sjogren's Syndrome (SS) occur in 0.5% to 1.0% of the population; whereas the disease is not hereditary, associations with certain HLA genotype have been note(HLA-B8 and HLA-DR3) Over 80% are women. If the disease affects only salivary and lacrimal glands without other coexisting systemic autoimmune diseases, it is termed primary Sjogren’s Syndrome. Patient with dry mouth (xerostomia) dry eyes (xerophthalmia) and mucosa in mouth and the eyes become thinned, inflamed, and painful with a burning. Also has root caries ( usually at the CEJ on the facial aspects). A 30y/o female comes to clinic due to anterior crown bridge loosen and multiple caries. She has Primary Sjogren's Syndrome over 8 yrs and asks for dental implant treatment. After bone augmentation from ramus, there are total 7 implant fixtures retained fixed crown bridges. After two year prosthetic treatment, patient indicated good comfort of the prostheses and the bone level are stable. It appears that implants can successfully be placed and maintained. Implant treatment may, therefore, offer a viable long-term treatment alternative for patients with Sjogren's syndrome. 參考資料 1.
