    WELCOME TO CHRIST COVENANT CHURCH

We are glad you are here to worship the living God! This worship folder is intended to walk you through the service, as well as provide you with devotional material to take home.

    IN PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

The world changes quickly. Movements come and go. Leaders rise and fall along with nations. Even science presents constantly changing information. There is no lasting confidence to be had in earthly things. But the Lord is an everlasting rock and is sovereign over all the affairs of man. Further, he is the Lord of the heart. To our wonder, this King above all Kings has not removed himself from man, but has called us and moved us toward himself through Christ. Not only this, he shepherds, guides, heals, and brings to us an unyielding eternal rest. Jesus drives away all our doubt and calls us to cast all our cares upon him. Why is our burden light? Maybe in part for the joy of knowing we are being carried along in the gentle arms of our sovereign King, even as we labor in his name.

    SERVICE OF WORSHIP — 9:00 and 10:45 a.m.

    Announcements and Greeting

Scripture Meditation—Isaiah 26:3–4 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.

    Introit

Call to Worship— Psalm 47:1–8 Leader: Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth. He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet. He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. ALL: God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet. Leader: Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! ALL: God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.

Congregational Hymn—O Father, You Are Sovereign

Text: Margaret Clarkson, 1982; Music: ST. THEODULPH, Melchior Teschner, 1615

    Prayer of Adoration

  • 4

Congregational Psalm—Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah, O My Soul

Text: Psalm 146, The Psalter, 1912; Music: RIPLEY, Gregorian Chant

Old Testament Reading—Isaiah 26:7–9, 12-13 The path of the righteous is level; you make level the way of the righteous. In the path of your judgments, O LORD, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul. My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. For when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

O LORD, you will ordain peace for us, for you have indeed done for us all our works. O LORD our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone we bring to remembrance.

    Confession of Sin

Assurance of Grace—Hebrews 1:3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Confession of Faith— from B.B. Warfield's "A Brief and Untechnical Statement of the Reformed Faith"

ALL: I believe that God has not left the world to perish in its sin, but out of the great love wherewith He has loved it, has from all eternity graciously chosen unto Himself a multitude which no man can number, to deliver them out of their sin and misery, and, of them, to build up again in the world His kingdom of righteousness; in which kingdom I may be assured I have my part, if I hold fast to Christ the Lord.

Congregational Psalm—My Shepherd Will Supply My Need (Psalm 23)

Text: Isaac Watts, 1719; Music: RESIGNATION, The Southern Harmony, 1854

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Giving of Tithes and Offerings Pastoral Prayer

Congregational Hymn—Jesus Paid It All I hear the Savior say, thy strength indeed is small; child of weakness, watch and pray, find in me thine all in all.

Refrain: Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe; sin had left a crimson stain, he washed it white as snow.

Lord, now indeed I find thy power and thine alone, can change the leper’s spots and melt the heart of stone. [Refrain.]

For nothing good have I whereby thy grace to claim, I’ll wash my garments white in the blood of Calv’ry’s Lamb. [Refrain.]

And when before the throne I stand in him complete, Jesus died my soul save my lips shall still repeat. [Refrain.]

Text: Elvina M. Hall, 1865; Music: ALL TO CHRIST, John T. Grape, 1868

Ministry of the Word—Matthew 26:1–5 THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD AND JESUS’ CRUCIFIXION—Ligon Duncan

Congregational Song—O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer; greatest treasure of my longing soul; My God, like you there is no other; true delight is found in you alone. Your grace, a well too deep to fathom; your love exceeds the heavens’ reach; Your truth, a fount of perfect wisdom; my highest good and my unending need.

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer; strong defender of my weary heart; My sword to fight the cruel deceiver, and my shield against his hateful darts. My song, when enemies surround me; my hope, when tides of sorrow rise; My joy, when trials are abounding; your faithfulness, my refuge in the night.

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer; Gracious Savior of my ruined life; My guilt and cross laid on your shoulders; in my place you suffered bled and died. You rose, the grave and death are conquered; you broke my bonds of sin and shame. O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer, may all my days bring glory to your Name.
