HYDROGEN VEHICLES

Defining the role of Hydrogen in Europe

• FCEVs for medium-long range transport• Satisfying up to 50% of the car market• Potential for significant well-to-wheels CO2 saving

Pre-requisites for roll-out• Technology cannot disrupt daily routine

• Rapid refuelling• Performance• Maintenance

• Require government support and subsidy• Early adopters will be forced to up-front (some)cost• Cost reductions are critical (cost per kW currently high)

HICEs can meet cost, refuelling and maintenance requirements, and support the rollout of infrastructure

HICE CARSVEHICLES | ROLL OUT

HICE VEHICLESPotential for early adopters

• FCEV platforms currently target personal transport• Early adopters will include industrial users• Return to depot fleet vehicles are normally not passenger

vehicles

HICEs offer benefits for LCVs

• Light commercial vehicles require high peak power output• Many operate on captive, or local/municipal duty

• Lower range is acceptable (fast refill)• Single point of refuel – greater utilisation• Lower cost/kW• Better understanding of residual value• Immediate recognition of economies of scale

• Stepping stone on the way to full FCEVs• Supports early roll out of infrastructure

HYDROGEN VEHICLES

HICE Transit

• Commercial vehicle platform

• 4.5kg gas storage (under-floor)• Retains load volume• 110hp on Hydrogen• Meets Proposed Euro 5&6 emissions standards• 100 mile range• C.£36K to convert

• Retains gasoline system – dual fuel• Limits range anxiety and provides a back up system

HOST TRIALS

HFUELONSITE FUEL FOR EVENTS

HFuel

• On site hydrogen generation - PEM electrolysers• 15kg per day unit – refuelling at 350bar• Plug and play – just add power & tap water• Provides customers with a real life demo unit at their site

• Currently outside at Hannover - next to ride & drive area

HYDROGEN ON SITE TRIALS

DEMONSTRATION (HOST)

• 21 commercial partners• Broad range of industrial sectors• 1-4 week trial at customer sites

• 270+ refuelling events• 500+ kg of hydrogen generated on-site• 10,000+ km travelled on hydrogen• 50+ different van drivers• 100% availability on HFuel plant• Technology proved practical and operational

Where suitable, HICEs can provide near-term hydrogen vehicle solutions

• Light commercial vehicles are currently not targeted for FCEVs

• In these markets cost, reliability and ruggedness are key• RTD business costs dominated by fuel• HICEs gives familiar technology, with zero tailpipe CO2

• Supports early stage H2 infrastructure• Ultimately, FCEV commercial vehicles are required

• HICE’s can satisfy requirements in short-medium term
