Franklin High continues to earn recogni-tion for being rated as one of the top high schools in the nation by Newsweek maga-zine and the Washington Post. Last spring I was invited to ceremonies where the school received proclamations from the Board of Education, the County Council and the County Executive. The Class of 2013 was particularly strong academically, with two of the graduates being honored as National Merit Scholars and many being accepted to prestigious colleges and universities in-cluding Brown, Johns Hopkins, Columbia and MIT. Here are the post high school plans for the entire class: 4-year college: 47%, 2-year college: 37%, Trade/Technical schools: 3%, Armed Services: 4%, and full time employment: 9%.

Several alumni have stopped by the school and I’ve been able to take them on brief tours of the building, even during the school day. If you are in the area and would like to stop by to see the building and remi-nisce, feel free to stop by the main office and we will be happy to accommodate you. You can always find out what is going on at the school by visiting http://franklinhs.bcps.org, and you can contact me directly at [email protected]. As always, we ap-preciate the continual support from the Alumni Association.Patrick S. McCusker, Class of ‘81

At this years Senior Awards Program we proudly awarded fourteen students with scholarships totalling $33,500. Our main purpose is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors, so we’ve started some fundraising. Last year we had our 1st fund-raiser at Reter’s Crab House, so grab a few friends and join other alumni for our 2nd on Tuesday, November 12th. Furthermore, next July we are looking forward to attend-ing a Franklin Alumni Day fundraiser at the Ripkens IRONBIRDS Stadium, date TBA. In addition, reunions can be one of the best times to fundraise for a scholarship. Along with scholarships, The Alumni Asso-ciation continues to donate for activities at the high school such as the After Prom Party and a Student of the Month breakfast. This year we teamed with Harris Publish-ing to produced a new Alumni Directory. If you purchased a directory or CD you should have received an email from Harris with an access code to the online Commu-nity - please let us know if you did not.

In addition, we are providing a quarterly online bulletin. Please make sure we have your personal up-to-date email address so you can be included. Please visit our web-site (franklinalumni.com) and provide us with updated contact info for you and fam-ily or friends who are alums. Let us know if there is something which would be a good addition to our website. These activities take planning and our board is small. WE NEED ADDITIONAL MEMBERS to not only help but provide ideas that will make this association a more effective entity. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (except Aug. & Dec.) at 7:00 at the Dale Chambers Commu-nity Center at 308 Main St in Reisterstown. We will see you at the Reisterstown Festival and at the Homecoming Parade on Oct. 19th.I’d like to thank our hard working, dedicat-ed board and look forward to another year and hopefully some additional members.Glenn Goff ‘62 Glen and wife Pat at Franklin’s

Not Your Typical PromLocal senior citizens got a treat in April when fifty Franklin High students organized and hosted

the 25th annual Senior’s Prom. With help from faculty members Cortnee Brennan and Joel Brown, students wore classic black and white while serving a catered Italian dinner to over 125

guests. DJ Joel Brown then kicked off the dancing, which was highlighted by seniors and students slow dancing together to Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” and then shaking it up as students

taught seniors how to line dance to “The Cupid Shuffle!”
