SCIPSI held “Tribute to Scholars” on April 18, 2012 at Phela Grande Hotel. This is

a yearly event solely for the scholars and People Development Program recipient who

graduated in school year 2011-2012, together with their parents and family, SCIPSI key

personnel and the management. The recognition and awarding of cash gift for those with

honors has been part of the event.

This year, two scholars graduated with flying colors. Novie Jane Bayona garnered 2nd

Honor at Labangal Elementary School, is the daughter of Bonifacio Bayona (Stevedore).

Joemel Padrigo placed 3rd Honors at Cahilsot, Calumpang Elementary School, is the son

of Jose Pardigo (Equipment Operator).

South Cotabato Integrated Port Services, Inc. (SCIPSI) had its OHSEQS Integrated Management System consisting of ISO 9001:2008 (QMS); ISO 14001:2004 (EMS) & OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational Health & Safety) Standards underwent a more stringent and comprehensive but objective type of system assessment, validation and verification of SCIPSI processes, functions and procedures to check its compliance

on the requirements of ISO Standards during the two-day Re-Certification Audit activities on June 28-29, 2012.

The audit was conducted by a Team of Auditors from UKAS Accredited Certifying Body AJA Registrars, Inc. that includes activities such as interviews, audit sampling and actual verification of documents and records as well as on-site inspection of Operational controls and Engineering Maintenance Practices.

The audit resulted to the following Recommendations for ISO Re-Certification Series:1. ISO 9001:2008 (QMS) : Recommended for Re-Certification2. ISO 14001:2004 (EMS) : Recommended for Re-Certification3. OHSAS 18001:2007 (OHSMS) : Recommended for Re-Certification

It was the 3rd time that these 3 ISO Certificates were qualified for re-certifications having a validity of 3 years since SCIPSI has been originally registered on February 2004 for EMS, November 2004 for OHSMS and January 2005 for QMS.

By July 28, 2012 all Corrective Actions Responses (CARs) were accepted for various Non-conformances (NC) findings raised by 5 auditors of AJA Registrars, Inc. SCIPSI is now waiting for their approval and issuance of 3 ISO Certificates.

SCIPSI is a company that cares about its employees-an approach that is undoubtedly mutually beneficial as it develops trust and respect between the two parties. One of its top priorities is to naturally promote safer workplace and preserve life. For these reasons, SCIPSI has recently conducted Basic First Aid Training-Course 1 (FAT-1) in coordination with Philippine Red Cross last April 22, 2012.

Indeed, a very worthwhile two-days training course with series of discussions, workshops and demonstrations to help participants be equipped with basic skills and knowledge of administering first aid promptly and appropriately. Also, written and practical examinations were given and should be passed to be certified First Aider.

Since accidents happen, always unexpectedly, having a basic knowledge of first aid is just being wise. Remember, “Safer Workplaces are Happier Workplaces.”

Year 2012 second quarter volume on Containerized and Non Containerized cargoes indicates significant changes based on the above figures, the volume of containerized increased by 15.98% and non containerized decreased by 32.80% versus the second quarter of 2011. The volume of foreign on non containerized this quarter significantly affects the total volume due to the absence of rice, salt, and fertilizer importation. Also, there was no shipment of cassava for this quarter, which totally affects the total volume for the non containerized commodities. The increase of volume from domestic vessels for the last two months of the second quarter 2012 contributed significantly for the increase of quarter total volume of containerized cargoes.
