PHD SNAPSHOT
Dr. Parul Agrawal, Associate Professor, BVIMR, successfully completed his doctorate on
10th Feb 2016 from Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune. He completed his work
under the guidance of Dr. N.K. Gupta Associate Professor, Ramjas College , Delhi University, The title of his thesis is “A STUDY ON THE IMPACT OF DECLARATION OF DIVIDEND IN
AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY”.
Dividend pay-out decision has always been a subject of interest to
financial analysts, academicians and researchers for about six decades now. The
researchers are interested in studying the extent to which the earnings of a company are distributed as dividend among the shareholders as also the retained earnings. Every
investment is made on the expectation and assumption that it will yield some returns. Equity investment is not an
exception to this. Every equity investor anticipates a good rate of return in the form of dividend to be declared by
the company. So, every company pays higher attention in formulating its own dividend policy. Dividend decision is
one of the most important decisions in the field of Financial Management. Dividen d policy determines the relationship between a company and the capital market. Payment of dividend enhances the market price of the
shares thereby increasing the wealth of the shareholders. Payment of dividend conveys to shareholders , the
information relating to the profitability of the firm. Dividends act as booster of the shareholder’s confidence ,
signalizing, that the company is being managed well and its future is safe.
The present study is an attempt to quantify the effect on price of share due to declaration of dividend and examine
the impact of declaration of dividend policy of a company on total volume, number of trade, turnover etc. At the
same time, it also explores the attitude and perception of investing community while making their investment
decision particularly in Automotive sector. For this purpose researcher selected top 10 companies which regularly
reported top position year to year.
A Quarterly News Letter - 2016 5
The study was based on both primary & secondary data analysis; the researcher calculated average dividend of 6
years from 2008 to 2013. All the secondary data was retrieved from the renowned CAPITALINE database accessed
from library of IIM Ahmadabad. ANNOVA was used to analyze the data and hypotheses were tested on 1% level of significance with the help of T-test. Primary data analysis was done with 477 investors. The Primary data was
collected from Delhi & NCR region. For this purpose researcher approached the broking firms like Edelweiss, Karvy,
Bajaj Capital and retrieved data about clients who were having stock position in the firms selected for the study.
Questionnaire drafted meticulously keeping in view the objective of the study and filled through emails and
personal contact.
Finally, it was concluded that Company’s Average Share trading, Share trading volume and Share turnover remain
unaffected before and after one month of the declaration of dividend. The investors are concerned and they keep
a check on the Dividend per share and earnings per share records of a company before making any investment
decision in the equity shares of a company. Investors do favor a consistent and moderately high dividend payout. Dividend alone can’t be the right yardstick to judge the performance of a company and it is not the only factor
influencing the investment decision of investors particularly in the case of Indian Automobile Industry. The
investors by and large, have many considerations other than dividends to invest in the equity of a company. These
considerations may be excellent quality and reliability, excellent product differentiation and high brand equity,
excellent growth and diversification record and professional management, highly innovative and supportive working culture and superb human resource management.

UNITED STATES PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS - IMPACT ON FINANCIAL MARKET
Denial of the strong pillars and the essence of democracy that has strengthened the foundations of it across the
Globe cannot be taken unjustified and in a fragile manner by any analyst or any individual that has taken a stand for the political front. The democracy which has created standards for the countries having the hub of parties
targeting the chairs of excellence esteemed positions.
Convergence of political and finance take place at every four years as twenty second amendment of the United
States constitution requires the election of president on every four years.
It has been usually seen that the beginning phase of presidential election have a recessive and bearish markets but
on the phase it witnessed a bullish and prosperous market.
Sound clarity of their vision and mission is lightened up in a very transparent manner by both the nominees towards
their mission” white house”. According to Wall Street experts, both Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump will be
negative for global markets. From the financial point of view, the choice between two is equivalent to the choice between the lesser of the two evils.
Several parameters which have been their base points for initiating a debate between both the nominees are trade
and immigration, taxation and spending which is some what important to understand from the financial point of
view.
If we see the part of Donald Trump-the showman-in the area of trade and immigration his idea of renegotiating or
breaking up of “NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) and to impose import tariff as high of 35% is going
to affect the trade at global platform especially with China and Russia. This can invite reciprocation and initiation
of series of reactions like similar tariff imposition from other countries of the World.
A Quarterly News Letter - 2016 30
Dwelling towards his immigration policies will cost the Federal Government $400 billion to $600 Billion, reduce the
workforce by 11 million workers and reduce the GDP by $1.6 trillion.
Tax reform structure by putting it into four brackets of zero, 10, 20 and 25 percent, debarring all deductions except
charitable and mortgage interest deduction. This will foster inequality in economy and will benefit only high class
income group. On the contrary, Hilary Clinton proposed “Buffet Tax”, imposing a minimum of 30 percent tax on
individuals with net income in excess of $1miilion and a further 4 percent surcharge on those with net income
excess of $5 million. Also proposing the repealing of “Cadillac Tax” which makes it more expensive for employers to provide High-end health care plans to their employee. On the whole, this will bring equality in economy and
aims to increase Federal Tax revenue corpus by $1.5 trillion over the next decade.
Giving a positive note towards immigration policy proposed by uncapping the number of green cards that can be
issued to spouses and unmarried children, which on an economic front will contribute to GDP of 3.3 percent.
It can be said, seeking the interest of the growth of United States economy, White House calls for their First Women
President to take over.
