Central Indiana lost a good friend last month with the death of Marjorie Tarplee, a distin- guished Indiana civic leader. Marge spent more than 50 years as a dedicated volunteer to our city. She was the first woman to chair the 500 Festival board. As a businesswoman, Marge served as the president of the Central Newspaper Foundation and corporate secre- tary of Central Newspapers Inc., the former owner of The Indianapolis Star. Crosswords were her obsession. She refused to work them except with a pen. Per her request, I made a puzzle for her using English grammar as its theme. She loved it. Hope you enjoy it as well.• Maurer is a shareholder in IBJ Media Corp., which owns India- napolis Business Journal. His column appears every other week. Central Indiana lost a good friend last month with the death of Marjorie Tarplee, a distin-guished Indiana civic leader. Marge spent more than 50 years as a dedicated volunteer to our city. She was the first woman to chair the 500 Festival board. As a businesswoman, Marge served as the president of the Central Newspaper Foundation and corporate secre-tary of Central Newspapers Inc., the former owner of The Indianapolis Star.

Crosswords were her obsession. She refused to work them except with a pen. Per her request, I made a puzzle for her using English grammar as its theme. She loved it. Hope you enjoy it as well.•
