President’s Letter Well, we just had the 1
st BBQ for the season at my house for my
husband’s birthday. It’s always great to see family and friends. With
our busy lifestyles, I don’t think we slow down enough to appreciate
the people we care about and who care about us.
I guess I could say the same for our IMA family. We really do care
about each other and always help where we can. We often don’t get a
chance to really connect as much as we’d like to—sad, but true. I
know many of you don’t have enough time available to really devote
to volunteering for our IMA board, but give it some thought for the
future, this is one of the best experiences I’ve had.
If you have some time to help move our organization forward—
GREAT!—call me or pop me an email. Otherwise, until you’re time
frees up a bit, I like to emphasize how important it is to at least stay
connected. The IMA is a great place to learn about career
opportunities, explore areas of accounting management you haven’t
yet experienced, and have a support group of which you can ask
questions (and get answers) to some of the current challenges in your
job. Trust me --- we have enough experience in the group, that some
of us are sure to have been in the place you are now and have some
advice we can share.
Join us at the lunch gatherings or dinner meetings for some
networking. Our dinner meetings also explore current pertinent topics
and offer 1 CPE credit. Keep in touch with your colleagues and
friends. It may not seem terribly important today, but it will be for
your tomorrow.
Yours in Advancing the Profession,
Kathy Rinkel

Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) March 17, 2009 IMA’s CMA Exam Prep Materials Chapter Discount Program – Spring 2009 Intent of this Offer The purpose of this offer is to provide a discount to IMA chapter members to purchase materials to study for the CMA exam. The intent of this discount is to attract members, as well as potential members, so that they will make the commitment to become a CMA. Instructions for Chapter Leaders This offer can be extended to any of your chapter members, and we encourage you to distribute it through the various chapter communication methods that you have available to you (e.g., newsletters, websites, email blasts, chapter meetings, etc). To assist you
9
with distributing this information, we have created three different file versions for your use: 1) PDF file – This file includes a full 8.5 x 11 color flyer. It can be copied and distributed at chapter meetings, and can also be attached to email blasts. 2) JPG file – This file includes the coupon discount information (lower half of flyer) only, and is ideal for placing in electronic newsletters. It does not include the color graphic picture which is on the top half of the pdf file. 3) EPS file – This file is in a format that is ideal for specialty print newsletters (eps is a file type used by professional printers). These three files are available to you in links provided in today’s (March 17th) chapter leader conference call. Self-Study and Group-Study Exam Preparation The IMA’s CMA Learning System by itself, or combined with the Online Intensive Review course, are ideal for an individual self-study or a group-study exam preparation program. The materials are aligned with the CMA body of knowledge, and include over 2,200 retired CMA exam questions that can be used to prepare for the exam. Whether an individual decides to study on their own, or prefers to study with a group, it is important to develop a plan with study times and/or group meeting times, and exam target dates. Becoming a CMA requires a commitment to studying and preparing for the exams, but is well worth the investment! Note: There are plans to present “Tips on Creating a Successful CMA Group Study Program” at the Denver conference, during the chapter leader training on Saturday, June 6th. For more information on this discount offer, IMA’s CMA exam prep materials, or on group study tips, please contact: Lisa M. Beaudoin, CMA Organizational Learning Manager 1-800-638-4427 ext. 1706 [email protected]

A special letter from Lynn Margulies regarding the National Conference in Denver: No, thank you for being the first of many local chapters looking forward to participating in the hospitality part of our IMA Annual Conference. This is a tradition we hope will become a longstanding one and you are the first. Primarily we will need someone locally to do the driving, Honey Weiss from the Ohio Council will help shop as she as dome this before. You are correct, the cost, depending on the attendance, will run between $500-$700 and yes we will gladly include your chapter when we use the 50/50 money to reduce expenses. I have a call into Kim Wallen as we speak to confirm if the IMA National will be able to contribute and sometimes we can conjure up sponsors. Feel free to do the same if you think you can. Yes, it is the Michigan and Ohio Councils that co-sponsored this suite for years. As for staffing the suite, we can surely put your volunteers on the early shift. The suite is normally open 6pm-12am…since your people will be driving home we can certainly accommodate that, so set up at about 5:30 would work fine until about 8-9pm whatever they are comfortable with…we would hope to have as many of your member attend as can, maybe even the ones who couldn’t actually attend the conference but would love the opportunity to network… I hope this answered your questions feel free to call or e-mail me if you have any more…This should start moving along now as we get closer. Thanks again for your willingness to start this new IMA Hospitality tradition. Lynn Lynn Margulies Recruiter A Change for the Better, Inc. 517-331-1105 [email protected]
