Pastor’s Point

Max Lucado shares the following in his book Anxious for

Nothing. He states, a native Hawaiian once told me the origin

of the name that islanders use for us non-Hawaiians—haole.

Haole is a Hawaiian word for “no breath.” The name became

associated with the European immigrants of the 1820s. While

there are varying explanations for this term, I like the one he

gave me: “Our forefathers thought the settlers were always in a

hurry to build plantations, harbors, and ranches. To the native

Hawaiians they seemed short of breath.”

Our culture majors on busyness. We seem to think that

our days should be filled with activity. Activity is not the key,

but meaningful expression. God has given us a great opportuni-

ty to share the divine with others. Jesus challenged us to pray

for workers in the harvest. The harvest is abundant, but what

we need is more laborers in the harvest. The purpose of our ac-

tivity always needs a connection to the harvest of which Jesus

spoke.

The balancing thought is that God created the Sabbath.

We need rest and thoughtful refection (Christians call this wor-

ship). So, in the midst of your busyness, no matter how pur-

poseful, remember to stop and focus on your Savior. He is al-

ways there.

Just a thought,

Rick

Howdy church! The past few months have brought to our family a lot of new things. Our oldest entering high school, the starting of a new aspect to our construction business, and, of course, joining Rocky Creek. I told Darbi that with all these changes, she should stay far away from any pregnancy test! But the truth is, God, who does not change, often works in new ways in our lives. Lamentations 3 says that the Lord’s mercies, “are new every morning.” I am excited about what new things (and people!) we will see from the Lord in the coming months in our church. Let’s pray for a willingness to follow His leading in our worship, lives, school, homes, and at work. Because He will lead us.

Great is His faithfulness!

“The fact that I can plant a seed and it becomes a flower, share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another's,

smile at someone and receive a smile in return, are to me continual spiritual exercises."

Leo Buscaglia

Popular programs on television are quiz/game shows. There is nothing new about them as they were popular over the radio during

the 1930s. Early TV game shows were: You Bet Your Life (1950), $64,000 Question (1955-1968), I've Got a Secret (1952-1967),

and many others. Let's have our own Church Library Bible Quiz Game. See if you can find the answers in the Bible to the following

questions:

1. What was the name of the town where God caused multiple languages to be spoken instead of having a common one?

2. In what river was Moses placed when a baby? Who placed him there? Who found him?

3. When the Lord told Moses to instruct the people in their offerings to God, how many types of offerings were expected?

Name the types of offerings.

Send the answers to the above questions, together with the Book and Chapter where the information is found to me and I will include

that information in the next newsletter. I will also name the first person to respond to me with all the correct information. You can

notify me via email at [email protected], text or phone at 325-998-0256, or in person. Can't provide a big prize, trip to Hawaii

or lots of money, but the knowledge we can gain from delving into our Bible should be priceless.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
