About House of K.P

A hand woven rug is more than a beautiful product, it’s a real life story of an Artisan who’s many generations have kept

this rare art form alive.

The house of K.P is a family run

business. The Company’s existence in

the world of carpets derives

inspiration from an inherent desire to

help the weavers of our state, thereby

uplifting their levels of living.

While also keeping in mind the

challenge to fulfil the requirements of

JAIPUR

Rugs of Rajasthan are well known for

their fine-quality, hand-knotting &

natural fibers. The pink city Jaipur, is

one of the main centers for this craft in

Rajasthan. With the deep influence of the

Mughal empire Jaipur emerged as one of

the main hub for carpet weaving.

Carpets manufacturing first begun in Rajasthan when weavers from

Afghanistan started to settle in the royal ateliers in the 17th century. Ever since,

they have flourished here, with their high quality and versatile patterns finding their way into showrooms across the

globe.

The art of carpet weaving in Iran

originated more than 2,500 years ago

and travelled across the world.

Understated but not ignorable, our

carpets are fine wool and silk blends,

painstakingly hand knotted.

Each square inch that mushes under

your feet may carry up-to two hundred

knots and counting.

curiously fascinated but once your feet

have walked upon them, you'll know this

is a treasure that will serve a lifetime.

Innovation in rug manufacturing led to the discovery of

hand tufted carpets. Less labour intensive than hand

knotting, and more possibilities of designs than

handloom, makes this manufacturing style

unique. Hand-tufted rugs are produced with a tool

called the tufting gun. It will always have some sort of

backing to hold the tufts in place. A durable fabric is

glued on to their backs. These rugs are often made of

wool, bamboo silk, viscose etc based on the quality of

tufting and yarn-count these rugs can last up to 20

years. They are much higher-quality than the ones

made on machines but much lower than the ones

made by hand-knotting by artisans. But these also

come closest to the hand knotted rugs as compared to

other weaves because these are also made by skilled

weavers. This process enables much wider variety of

designs with a multi colour palette. Designs such as

geometric, flowered, paisley, stripes or pretty much

everything will be possible in this style of

manufacturing rugs.

Yes! these rugs are hand-made too. Though

not as labor intensive as hand knotted rugs

but even handloom carpets would fall under

the category of handmade. A thick cloth is

woven using two sets of intersecting threads,

a warp which is kept taut on the loom and the

weft which is thrown through the warp

threads, usually with the help of a shuttle.

This technique permits manufacturing of less

complex designs as compared to hand

knotted or hand tufted rugs. Having cut-pile,

loop-pile or a combination of both. For giving

the Woven rug strength a cloth is pasted

behind it using a latex.

These rugs are economical and suit well in

contemporary interiors. Common fibers used

are silk and wool or a combination of both.

With lustrous velvety textures these rugs add

a rich feel to even most basic interiors.

These are foldable rugs. Extremely user friendly. On one hand they add a design

element to interiors and on the other make an economic floor covering. So when you

get bored with them, without any regret of having to spend too much, you can easily

replace them with new ones. Natural fibers used to produce these rugs are wool, linen,

silk, Jute or even cotton. These rugs are popularly known as Dhurries.

would be most appropriate. Tall

tufts and long fluffy fibers give a

unique characteristic to these

happy looking rugs. With a

minimalistic modern look these

are more popular in basic shades

of white, beige, and ivory.
