• The Common Core State Standards identify what students need to know and be able to do in each grade level in order to be prepared for college and career.
• Teachers will decide the best way to teach their students in order for them to meet Common Core expectations.

Measures of Text Complexity
Math Shifts
• 2-4 key concepts, skills and practices focused on deeply in each gradeFocus
• Concepts logically connected from one grade to the next and linked to other major topics within the grade
Coherence
• Fluency with arithmetic, application of knowledge to real world situations, and deep understanding of mathematical concepts

Final Thoughts
• Awareness and sense of urgency• Cross departmental “lift”• Commitment to build teacher and leader
capacity• Need to align instructional materials and
infrastructure• An understanding of the expected
performance cliff in 2015
