The north was pleased that a
balance was kept, and that the
state would remain free.
The south was not entirelydispleased because Maine was
not best fitted for slave labor.
This was the most beneficial
parts of the compromised thatopened up a huge portionagainst slavery in the U.S.
Once again, the south was
upset over the loss in territory, but the Northern states werenot built for slave labor farms.
Obviously the south waspleased with an addition of aslave state, but still voted
against the compromise for themost part.
Some northern extremistthought that it was a dirty deal, and that having any slave
states wasn't acceptable.
The north was clearly joyed bythe freedom, as this was one ofthe cessions they received in
the compromise.
The southerners were upset
over the loss of it.
Northerners were basically
furious about the law whichcontradicted many views, andmade them to sever to ignore.
This was the most importantcession the south got thatwould finally secure the deal,
which was otherwise lopsided.
The north didn't feel this was
enough as they would clearly beover run by southerners.
The southerners would
basically gain these two stateswith an inflow if migrantfarmers.
Many Northerners still didn't
think this was enough as it didnot abolish slavery, only trade.
To the south, this didn'treally prevent anything, asthey could simply bring their
own slaves there.
