A Presentation on
Computer Devices &
Peripherals
BY: KRANTI MADHAV . G
Objective:
Get a basic idea about the internal
devices & working of a Computer.
Able to Analyse the Parts & Specifications
of Computer.
Choose the Configuration of the System
you’d like to Purchase.
Contents:
Micro Processor
RAM (Temporary Storage)
ROM(Permanent Storage)
Graphics Card.
USB(Universal Serial Bus).
Micro Processor:
Executes the Programs
Takes input Processes data Output
Machine Level Code(Binary format)
Two Major Manufacturers of PC processors:
INTEL
AMD(Advanced Micronic Devices)
Types of Processors:
Based on the Architecture:
32 bit.
64 bit ,etc,.
Based on the Cores:
Dual core
Quad core ,etc,.
How Fast is a Cpu?
When you choose a Cpu, you should consider it’s
speed.
Speed is Determined by two factors:
- Clock Frequency
- Amount of Cache Memory
The higher the value , the faster the CPU will be.
The Intel Core i 5-7200U Processor:
Dual Core Processor.
Speed: 2.5 giga hertz turbo boosts upto 3.2 ghz
Ultra Low Power Processor.
Random Access Memory (RAM):
The Primary Memory of a System.
Storage Place Nearer to the Processor.
Quickly Readable / Writtable.
Volatile Memory.
Usually Ranges between 4 gb to 32 gb.
Types of Ram:
Static
Dynamic(Widely Used)
Advancements in RAM:
DDR Ram
DDR2 Ram
DDR3 Ram
DDR4 Ram(Currently in Market)
Advantages Of DDR4:
More Speed & Reliability.
Less Chip Size
Low Power
Less Heat Dissipation
ROM(Permanent Storage):
Two Major types:
HDD(Hard Disk Drive)
SSD(Solid State Drive)
The Hard Disk Drive:
➢ Data is Read / written on a rotating Metal Disc.
➢ Typical Disc Speed is 5400 / 7200 RPM.
➢ Advantages:
Low Cost
Available in Larger Versions.(In Range of Terabytes)
➢ Disadvantages:
Prone to Damage
More Access time
Noise
More Power Consumption
The Solid State Drive:
Data Written to Memory Chips.
Advantages:
Less Access Time.
Data Security.
Less Prone to Damage.
Disadvantages:
More Cost
Only Available in Small Versions i.e, Typically(50 to 128 GB)
Graphics Card:
Used to Display data on the Monitor
Input from CPU & Output to Monitor/Display.
Types:
Inbuilt Graphics Card
Dedicated Graphics Card
Dedicated Graphics VS Inbuilt
Graphics:
Inbuilt Graphics:
Employed with inbuilt Graphics Processor
that shares memory from PC’s Ram
Memory.
Advantages:
Low Power Consumption
Useful for Basic Tasks.
Disadvantages:
Low Quality images
Slows down System performance.
Dedicated Graphics:
Employed with Separate dedicated
memory along with Graphics Processor.
Advantages:
High Quality Graphics
Best Resolution.
Disadvantages:
High Cost
Heating Problems
Universal Serial Bus (USB):
Most Commonly used port for many applications.
Commonly Used as Input Port.
Upgradations:
USB 1.0 USB 2.0 USB 3.0 / 3.1
