Poem Commentary: A P oi son  T ree  The poem “ A Poison T ree” presents two scenarios here. The title of the poem presents the central metaphor. The poem is called the “A Poison Tree” and at the end the “foe” lays “outstretched beneath the tree” after eating the (possibly poisoned) apple that grows on it. The speaer of the poem has had a possible ti! with his friend due to which he is angry but when he “told his wrath ("ine #)” to his friend$ “%is wrath did end (same line). ” Then the poem de&elops as he parleys about his anger with his foe (line ') but as he does not epress his feelings to the “oe$” he says$ “*y wrath did grow.”  The poem consists of immediate rhyme$ as the rhyme scheme comprises of AA$ ++$ CC$ ,,$ --$ $ and %% type of rhyming/ friend0end$ oe0grow and fears0tears. The poem is made up of 1 stan2as each containing 1 lines. The rhyme and the rhythm of the po em compl iment ea ch ot he r as it ma es the po em sou nd melodious and it is 3uite pleasingly and so it becomes a pleasure to read the poem and the structure creates a pleasant mood. +ut this changes as soon as you start interpreting the poem/ the diction completely changes the mood from pleasant to a bit negati&e$ cold and spiteful one.  The 4rst stan2a presents the central cru$ on what the poem is built around. The second one suggests the outcome of the anger that slow grew inside him$ the speaer tals about how the anger a!ects him$ “And 5 watered it in fears6$ 7ight and morning with my tears” and also the stan2a shows how the speaer deals with the pain and anger when he says$ “And 5 sunned it with smiles6$ And with short deceitful wiles.” 8unned being a direct metaphor connoting that it outshined the anger.
