De La Guerra Plaza The plaza is popular for its high-visibility location and is used for public events year round, including musical performances and festivities.
El Presidio State Park Founded April 21, 1782, the Santa Barbara Royal Presidio was the last in a chain of four military fortresses built by the Spanish along the coast, which was a frontier at the time.
Lobero Theater California’s oldest, continuously operating theater. It was originally built in 1873 as an opera house, and rebuilt by architect George Washington Smith for the Community Arts Music Association in the 1920s. At the time, civic groups were unifying the town’s architecture around the Spanish Colonial style. The theater hosts arts and cultural events.
Santa Barbara Museum of Art The museum opened to the public June 5th, 1941, in a building that was once the Post Office. The museum contains 27,000 works of art.
Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens This lush, green park is one of the city’s most beautiful spots. Gardens and beautiful landscaping surround a pond with koi and turtles. One of the highlights is a walkway through species that thrive with minimal water.
Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History The oldest museum in Santa Barbara, founded in 1916 by William Leon Dawson. The first buildings constructed at the current site were built in 1922.
Santa Barbara Mission The tenth of the 21 California Missions founded by the Spanish Franciscans. It was estab-lished on the Feast of St. Barbara, December 4, 1786. The Mission is still very much alive as the chief historic landmark in Santa Barbara. The Mission’s commanding position and grand proportions reinforce her title, “Queen of the Missions.”
Santa Barbara Courthouse Designed by William Mooser III, the Spanish-Moorish style Historic Landmark was completed in 1929. Visitors can ride an elevator to the 85-foot “El Mirador” clock tower for unforgettable views of the city. Other attractions include the Mural Room, sunken geardens, and ornate tile work throughout the building.
Paseo Nuevo Discover a picturesque world of Spanish-style courtyards, winding paseos, fountains and lush tropical flowers. Paseo Nuevo includes Nordstrom, Macy’s, and more than 50 specialty shops. A unique selection of fine restaurants, art galleries and theaters await you.
Santa Barbara Train Station The train station is served daily by the Coast Starlight and the Pacific Surfliner, to and from Los Angeles, Oregon, Washington, San Diego and San Luis Obispo. Built in 1902 by the Southern Pacific Railroad, the station underwent a reconstruction project in 2000.
Moreton Bay Fig Tree This tree is believed to be the largest Ficus macrophylla in the country. The Moreton Bay fig tree was shipped from eastern Australia, and originally planted between State and Montecito Streets, and transplanted by Hannah Crabb, when it was “as tall as a walking stick”.
The Dolphin Fountain At the base of State Street this fountain, entitled Dolphin Family, marks the entrance to Stearns Wharf.
Stearns Wharf California’s oldest working wharf, Stearns Wharf is central to Santa Barbara’s character and history. It was built in 1872 to serve cargo and passenger ships. In the 1930s, gamblers boarded floating casinos at the pier, and during World War II it was turned into a naval installation. Today, with a myriad of shopping, dining and dramatic views, the wharf is visited by 5 million people a year, making it one of Santa Barbara’s largest tourist attractions.
