•The dissertation was concerned with the design and implementation of a practical solution to support seamless mobility in future integrated heterogeneous networks.

•Transparent migration of ongoing data flows between two access points belonging to independent heterogeneous technologies is achievable, and tools and mechanisms for supporting this type of mobility should be placed within the next generation networking architectures.

•Too high personal expectations

•Lack of discussion

•Collaborations can go wrong



•When you don’t meet your supervisor for more than three consecutive months

•Skipping lab for more than five days without knowing why

•First paper rejected… no worries

•Second paper rejected… keep going

•Running out of funds… finish on time!


Advice.Do and Don’t.

•Don’t disappear from the lab

•Don’t believe you know everything

•Don’t assume you have 4 years to finish your PhD

•Do look for discussion with your supervisor and peers

•Do try to meet your supervisor on a regular basis

•Do publish and try hard to do so

•Do look for fruitful collaborations, two heads are better than one (most of the time)

•Do build your personal network!


Conclusion.

The PhD program is a long self-motivated process worth to pursuit. Sometimes you don’t think so. However, there are many rewards along the road to keep you going – just be careful to look for them and enjoy it.
