THEIR CHALLENGES

The client has highly complex heterogeneous IT infrastructure which has VMWare, Wintel, Solaris LDOM & Zones, EMC SRDF storage with appliances for network management and password vaulting systems. Handling such a complex infrastructure posed a critical challenge to the clientAllocation and coordination with SME resources across geography as the client has employed SMEs to manage the infrastructure specific to technologies such as Storage, Servers, and Application etc.The client needs Recovery automation to reduce the RTO of their applications spread across 1000+ branches and minimizing the dependency on SMEs for conducting Recovery drillsThe client conducts Recovery drill on 4 banking applications (out of 160 applications) each month during weekends; The RTO is 6-8 hours due to manual coordinationCritical timelines to bring up the application in Recovery siteManual validation and verification process to confirm the application availability Generating Recovery drill reports on success and shortfallsManaging appliances for DNS and Password vault management

IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS

Customer environment involves a lot of complexity in terms of applications getting spanned across multiple zones. Continuity Patrol is strategically architected to cater to this kind of a heterogeneous setup with an end-to-end automated approach.

In the diagram above, it is clearly understood that Continuity Patrol has taken control of both “internal” and “DMZ” network for the purpose of Monitoring and Management of all the configured critical Applications from the perspective of “Availability Management”.

Continuity Patrol stores all the information onto the metadata and the same has been secured with Triple DES encryption to protect the critical information available in it.

HIGH LEVEL ARCHITECTURE DIAGRAM OF CP LOAD BALANCING

In the client’s environment, there are applications that are spanned across internal and DMZ networks, separated by a firewall to restrict the external world access till the point within DMZ. Nature of DMZ network is to host web & app related servers for customer-facing purposes as part of the services being o�ered to their customers. They in turn communicate with their DB layers that are lying in the internal network through DB connectors.

CP Service has been installed and configured in the “internal” network. It has been enabled with WCF access to pass across the firewall to manage the web & app servers in the DMZ through the TCP port 44000 in the firewall, and the port has been enabled bi-directionally.

CP has been integrated and configured to use the existing AD authentication mechanism in the client’s environment to ensure the security policy is intact without any deviations.
