monday • Excited to hit the fairways, my husband and I teed off bright and early on Kapalua’s exquisite Plantation Course. What a thrill to play in the footsteps of the many PGA Tour professionals who have competed in the annual Mercedes-Benz Championship here over the years! Once we’d wrapped up our 18 holes, we stopped back by our residence to pick up the kids and head to the beach. Hours later, after soaking up plenty of sun and snorkeling in Kapalua Bay, we settled in at the resort pool to snack on ceviche and smoothies while enjoying our first Maui sunset.

tuesday • After dropping off our ten-year-old son at Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment program for a guided underwater photography excursion and a lesson in ancient Hawaiian navigation methods, my husband and I took our sixteen-year-old daughter to the Kapalua Spa for massages. Refreshed and relaxed after our indulgent treatments, we left to pick up our son for a casual lunch by the pool and then met our guide for the helicopter tour our Onsite Concierge had arranged. Soaring over Haleakala, the West Maui Mountains, and Old Lahaina was definitely a highlight of our trip!

wednesday • I crept out of the house early for a quick yoga session before the rest of the family was up and grabbed a fresh pineapple juice from the juice bar for my stroll home. When I got back, breakfast was ready and the kids were already dishing up their plates at the table out on the lanai. After a leisurely meal, we gathered our gear and headed to the beach to meet our guide for the private snorkel tour our Onsite Concierge had arranged. Thank goodness for daily housekeeping—we left a giant mess from breakfast and came back to a spotless kitchen, so it was easy to prepare a salad, grill some mahi-mahi, and enjoy a quiet family dinner at home.

thursday • When we told our Onsite Concierge how much we loved our snorkeling trip the day before, he recommended that we head up the coast a bit to Honolua Bay and snorkel there as well. The bay is part of the Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District, so the reef was spectacular and we saw more fish than anywhere else—it was incredible! And because Honolua is a conservation area, there are no resorts along the coastline here, so there were no crowds on the beach. Of course, the kids spotted surfers off-shore as we were leaving and decided they wanted to give that a try as well, so we called our Onsite Concierge from the car and he immediately arranged a private surfing lesson for that afternoon. After a quick tutorial in the shallows, the kids followed their guide out to the breakers, and my husband and I enjoyed cocktails on the beach while we watched them ride their first waves.

friday • Our son had so much fun at the Ambassadors of the Environment program on Tuesday that we enrolled him for another morning of activities. And while he was off learning about Maui’s Green Sea Turtles from expert naturalists, our daughter curled up on our lanai with a book for a quiet morning at home, leaving my husband and me free to head to the Kapalua Tennis Garden, where we brushed up our skills and enjoyed some friendly competition. After a delicious lunch at The Gazebo—a local favorite that our Onsite Concierge recommended to us—my daughter and I escaped to the Kapalua Spa for pedicures while my husband and son teed off on The Bay Course. Dinner at home—prepared by a private chef—was the perfect end to another active day. It was while we were relaxing on our lanai with fresh piña coladas (virgin for the kids, of course) at sunset that we decided Kapalua might just be our new favorite vacation destination.
