The Peezy:Right-first-time midstream, analysis, diagnosis and treatment.
Giovanna ForteManaging Director
Funnelly Enough Limited
A Doctor’s dilemma.• In 2002, Suffolk GP Dr Vincent Forte had a difficult day in surgery• He asked five different women to provide a urine sample so he could
test, diagnose and treat their problem• He gave them the standard Universal Container into which they were
asked to deliver a mid-stream urine sample. They all complained
(Have you tried peeing into one of these?)
Delivering the Not-Very-MSUHold universal container close to body (but not quite between the legs)
START!STOP!
Now position the container directly underneath body …
AIM!GO!
Wipe loo seat, legs, floorWash hands. Wash bottle
Give damp container to the nice lady on Reception
The Female Freedom Funnel• Vincent decided there must be a solution to female MSU delivery• So he invented the Female Freedom Funnel - intended to be flushable
• Peezy is designed to collect a pure mid-stream, leading to right-first-time sample analysis, diagnosis and treatment
• The same year, this extraordinary looking device won the very firstMedical Futures Innovation Award
What next?• Vincent and I joined forces to develop Peezy, the only
collection system for women that guarantees:
Personal dignity and hygieneRight-first-time mid-stream urine sample
Improved infection controlImproved diagnosis and treatment
Reduced repeat visits saving time for GP, Staff andPatient
Success.
Peezy works like this…
Peezy benefits.
• NO contamination of sterile saline• NO contamination from rim to user• NO promotion or inhibition of growth of
urinary pathogens (13 species tested)• NO effect on protein or glucose or HCG
(pregnancy) testing in the lab• NO effect on near-patient urine multistix
(dipstick testing)

Clinical Trial 14 June - 20 August 2010
A prospective study with historical controls to compare therelative bacterial sample contamination rates betweenan automated mid-stream urinecollection system (AMSU) to astandard MSU collection methodacross all units at The Royal FreeHospital NHS Trust, and predictiveantibiotic prescribing rates.
A reduction in the percentage of samples whichare contaminated prior to bacteriologicaltesting would result in fewer contaminatedsamples needing to be repeated, or resultingin inappropriate antibiotic prescribing at anadditional cost to the NHS and causingdelays in treating patients and potentiallyreducing length of hospital stay.

What are we looking for?
The use of a novel urine collection device tocollect an MSU sample willreduce the contaminationrate by 50% whencompared with thestandard MSUcollection method.
