We are nearing the end of the spring semester and have some exciting updates for our fans. The team has been working really hard to build on the success of the 2015, but with a determined focus on the future of the 2016 season. Thus far, we have taken the field against Towson University, Bloomsburg University and the University of Pennsylvania. We had a great crowd at our Penn game despite the snow and freezing temperatures. There are full game recaps of the three contests featured in the newsletter. We are looking forward to our away match at the 2015 National Champions, Penn State and our sole home contest against Binghamton in the next two weeks. This spring, we have focused on individual development specifically in the areas of strength, speed & agility, and technical skills. I have been very happy with the progress the team has made over these past months. On the recruiting front, we had seven student athletes sign their NLIs (National Letter of Intent) on February 3 rd . They are a dynamic and athletic class that will be a great addition to the returning core. I look forward to welcoming the group to campus in August. As always the recruiting cycle continues on as David, Leigh and I will be on the road in the spring and summer months watching top prospective student athletes from the 2017 & 2018 classes. In addition to the travel, we now offer two camps which draw players from all over to our campus. The following players will join the Bison Family this fall: (Hometown, Club, Position) Theresa Adu -Attobrah (Lumberton, NJ, PSA-Goalkeeper) Gabby Bair (Homdel, New Jersey, PDA-Forward) Lily Courts (West Lake Village, Real So Cal-Defender) Bailey Hurst (Madison, NJ, PDA-Forward) Danielle Kaufman (Wilmette, IL, FC United-Goalkeeper) Julia Rotatori (Summitt, NJ, PDA-Defender) Ali Russo (Morganville, NJ, PDA-Defender) In this edition of Bison Bench Notes we highlight a number of upcoming events that are very special to Bucknell Athletics and Bison Soccer. Coming up, we have our alumni game, spring reception tour, and Bucknell reunion. Our staff would love to see any alumni, parents, or supporters at any of the upcoming events. Please let me know if you plan to attend any of the events. Finally, we have our Trustee Challenge Day set for April 28 th ! Your financial support is an integral part of our program’s success. Please consider donating on the 28 th to help our program meet our fundraising goals and continue to provide our student-athletes with the best experience possible. Go Bison! Thanks, Kelly

2016 SPRING GAMES

March 4, 2016 – Towson University

On Friday, March 4th, we took a trip down to Virginia as we were invited to play in the college game at the Loudoun Soccer College Showcase. After 90 minutes of play we ended in a 0-0 draw, not without creating a bulk of chances especially after finding our rhythm in the second half. It was a positive showing for our first time together against another collegiate opponent, who we had beat 1-0 in our first regular season game

last fall.

March 22, 2016 – Bloomsburg University

Last month we visited our Central Pennsylvania neighbors at Bloomsburg University for our second game of the spring. We came away with a 2-0 victory, with two goals coming in the second half after a highly

competitive first 45 minutes. We broke the scoreless stretch after sophomore forward Maddie Mulford drove endline and slotted a ball across the goalmouth to a crashing freshman, Casey Gray, who put the ball away on her first touch. We gained a comfortable lead with a second goal on a ball from centerback Maddie

Dano into freshman Talia Szatkowski who craftily turned her defender before sliding it into the far corner past the oncoming Bloomsburg goalkeeper. The match provided us a good opportunity to regain a bit of our

offensive rhythm, which we took advantage of by finding the back of the net on two occasions.

April 9, 2016 – University of Pennsylvania

Just when we thought we had evaded snowfall for the winter months, we were hit by storm in mid-April as we ventured down to the University of Pennsylvania for our third spring matchup. Despite the mixture of

rain and snow, both teams competed for chances on net over the course of 90 minutes. The game ended in a scoreless tie, just like our first, after we had one chance hit the crossbar and another just missed the

frame. The highlight of the match without a doubt was the shutout earned by senior, Danielle Piccirilli, who made the trip and played in goal despite her lack of experience in net.

BUWS

EXTERNSHIPS

WINTER 2016

Carolyn Casey #21

Company: Duval & Stachenfeld LLP

Location: New York, NY

“It was really valuable for me to see an attorney’s average day in the office. People often think of lawyers in a court room, fighting and advocating for their clients. There is a lot of work outside of

the court room and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to

observe that kind of work.”

Meghan Holtz #9

Company: Spencer Stuart

Location: Philadelphia, PA

“I believe Bucknell’s alumni networking is what makes this

type of experience unique. Because of our mutual connection to Bucknell with these alumni at

powerful and successful companies, we as students have a

great advantage over other students at other institutions.”

Jackie Ham #28

Company: EMC Corporations

Location: Hopkinton, MA

“The format allowed me to talk to people working in different

parts of the company. This allowed me to learn about many different areas of EMC and the

many parts that go into business operations.”

Maddie Mulford #26

Company: C.W. Henderson & Associates

Location: Chicago, IL

“It was a very personalized experience which gave me the chance to really talk with each employer and discuss their own college experience, such as their

majors, degrees and interests, which further helped me reflect on my own experience and what I want

out of my time here at Bucknell.”

Kendall Ham #14

Company: Cardiovascular Associates

Location: Middletown, RI

“I liked the format of the externship because I got a taste of everything - from outpatient care to

inpatient care in the hospital to watching surgery. I was very lucky to experience a little bit of everything

because it gave a sense of what I would like and dislike if I were to go into the field of medicine.”
