The Bishop set goals for each parish to meet with incentives for exceeding the goals. Fr. St. Mary Parish began participation this past winter and far exceeded expectations. With gift pledges still coming in, we have raised 251% of the Bishop’s goal and have $1,676,596 pledged that will come back to St. Mary’s for our projects. We plan on breaking ground this spring or early summer on an addition that will include a cafeteria, expanded kitchen, and additional storage space. Thank you to all who contributed to this campaign! I thank God for the work that He is doing at St. Mary School and humbly ask Him to continue His abundant blessings. I thank all of you so much for your prayers and support for the school. Together we look toward the future at St. Mary’s with great hope. We ask the intercession of our Patroness, Mother Mary, that She pray fervently for the administration, teachers, parents, and students that they all play their roles well so that St. Mary School continues to be a source of blessing for all associated with the school and all who come in contact with its students and graduates. Principal Darren Thelen Thank you for taking the time to read this report. We want to share with you how we use the resources that our parishioners, donors, and benefactors bless us with, and also share with everyone the many ways that our school is supported. By our account, we are the oldest operating Catholic school in the state, still educating students 181 years in our Catholic faith after Fr. Kopp held the first St. Mary’s class in 1836 in his log cabin. We want to ensure St. Mary School’s success for the next 181 years, so that our future generations may grow in our Catholic faith in our small town. That can only happen with the prayers and support of our alumni, parish, community, and greater school family. The continued growth of the Fr. Miller Trust Fund is essential to our school’s future. Almost every aspect of education has changed in 181 years, except of that which is most important here in Westphalia; our Faith. The teachers at St. Mary’s taught me things I will never forget. They taught me about forgiving and loving one another. They taught us so much about God and they are fantastic role models. My favorite teachers were Mr. Smith, Mrs. Wohlfert, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Hengesbach. I really liked Mr. Smith because he was kind and humble and if anything went wrong he always would want to find a solution. And Mrs. Wohlfert is so kind, loyal and very supportive. She was always there for us no matter what the situation was. She always wanted to hear both sides of the story and find some way to make things better. Mrs. Hengesbach was one of the best role models at that school, she is very nice and very thankful for everything and never takes things for granted. Mrs. Smith is an amazing math teacher and she helped me understand a lot of things that I had trouble learning. - Braiden Martin, 6th Grade
