Proud to make a difference. A new waste collection system to improve the quality of waste segregation and to safeguard the environment. In order to achieve the 70% segregation target set by regional legislation, the municipality of Ferrara has activated a gradual modification of its waste collection modalities and has introduced the Precise Fee which takes into account the actual quantity of unsorted waste products and promotes beneficial behaviour. Separate collections Ferrara separately collects paper, plastic, organic materials, glass and cans, grass cuttings and branches. Each waste item has a dedicated container. Everything that remains outside of these separate containers is put into an unsorted waste container. If care is taken, there is very little that remains. For plastic, glass/aluminium, paper and cardboard, there are no variations in the collection methods. The roadside bins for organic waste will have a lid with a hole large enough to allow only special 10-litre bags to be deposited. New: top-opening dumpsters The road dumpster for the unsorted waste has been equipped with a cover that can only be opened with the Carta Smeraldo. One must use bags with a maximum capacity of 30 litres and do the following: Bring the Emerald Card close to the reader and the cover will open Deposit the tightly closed bag, making sure that the cover does not get blocked Close the cover by moving the lever 1 2 3 These operations must be repeated for each bag. Grass cuttings and prunings The roadside dumpsters for these waste items are also equipped with a cover. Starting in January, these can be opened only with the Carta Smeraldo by following the instructions. Carta Smeraldo This is a personal card with which to open the dumpsters for the unsorted and pruning waste items. The card, when passed in front of the optical reader, unlocks the door of the cover.
