A Mother’s Day Message from Rev. Marty Singley
Mother’s Day!
Seeing all the Mother’s Day merchandise in the
stores this week makes me realize how pervasive is
the presence of our mothers, even when they are at
a distance – even when they’ve gone on to be with
the Lord. Motherhood is a kind of transcendent
thing, and the influence of our moms is always with us – for better or
worse!
The late Joan Rivers once laughed about her mother’s ability to prick her
conscience and make her feel guilty. “My mother could make anybody feel
guilty,” she quipped. “She used to get letters of apology from people she
didn’t even know!”
Some of us have mothers like that!
Someone else once marveled at the fact that her mother would remake the
beds even after the children had made them simply because there was a
little wrinkle in the bedspread. She said that no one in the history of the
world has ever died from sleeping in an unmade bed, but her mother
wouldn’t allow it.
That’s what you call love!
Some of us have been so shaped by our moms that, before we can even
look at the “What Would Jesus Do?” bracelet on our wrist, we have to

why some of us even today never leave the house without making sure we
have on a pair of clean underwear just in case we get into an accident and
have to go to the hospital.
Mothers. Some of our moms, of course, were overwhelmed by the
frailties of life and were unable to bring the best gifts into our lives. Every
Mother’s Day, there are some among us who don’t have good memories
of their mom. And we mourn that loss with them. But we focus this week
on the high ideals of motherhood because, regardless of our own
experiences, the incredible human potential for love is often found in the
stories of mothers.
This same kind of love is what the Gospel of Jesus is trying to get across
to us. You see, in life you can achieve great theological wisdom, succeed
in business, accomplish great things, and attain a high degree of personal
integrity, but it’s not until you learn to love that you come to know God
and truly start living!
And it’s not until you learn to love in a distinctively Christian way that
you actually begin to follow Jesus.
What IS Christian love? Well, listen to First John 3:16-19a:
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.
And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone
has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on
him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love
with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This is how we KNOW
that we belong to the truth….”
The standard of Christian love, according to First John, is Jesus’ sacrifice
for us. Christian love is sacrificial, merciful, redemptive action taken on
breakfast outside of Irvine, KY. Contact: Cathy Anderson: 272-5343

behalf of others!
I’ve been thinking a lot these days about how we as a church will go on
without Dr. Turner. Bill brought so many gifts to us, both corporately and
individually. He was our leader and his passing leaves an immense void
that seems impossible to fill.
But maybe we CAN fill it with what Bill Turner poured into us through
every sermon, every service and every encounter.
Maybe we can fill it with Love.
Love for God. Love for each other. And Love for our neighbors.
Mother’s Day reminds us that even after someone we love dies they live
on through the gifts left behind in the lives of those who remain.
And Bill left us with a lot of beautiful gifts to share.
The Twenty-Third Psalm Translated By Our Mothers...
My mother was my shepherd. I never went without, although she
sometimes did. She made me lie down and take naps. On more than one
occasion, she calmed the troubled waters of my life and assured me that
things would be okay. She's the one who made my soul come alive to
God's love. She taught me the difference between right and wrong, and
introduced me to God's ways. Even though I've walked through some
pretty dark valleys, she's always come and found me. With the crook of
her arm, she's pulled me out of some pretty rough places. She's pointed me
in better directions with the rod of her wise guidance. Whenever bad
things happened in my life and enemies gathered around, she cooked and
told me to sit down and eat. Like oil poured from a cup, she patted me on
the head to remind me of her love. No matter where I've ever gone, my

mom has somehow managed to follow me. Her goodness has shown up in
packages of cookies, or birthday cards with a five-dollar bill inside, or
simply beautiful memories that came to mind unexpectedly. Her mercy
was constant. There's not one sin I've ever committed that she hasn't
forgiven me for. Someday, the time will come for me to go and dwell in
the house of the Lord. When the door opens, I expect I'll see her standing
there, in her apron, with a smile on her face. No doubt she'll turn to Jesus
and simply say, "He's home."

Will you help with our Martha Ministry? by Charlotte Krasinski, Administrative Board Chair
Our Martha Ministry team is in immediate need of two people to head the
team with their organizational skills. Our need is two people to organize
events by calling, setting up times and places for serving, or delivering the
food, etc. If you have thought that you would like to serve your church,
but did not know where, here is the place for you! And maybe you could
talk a friend into serving with you. Rachael Jones (859) 489-1954 or
Ginny Berry (859)321-0404 are eagerly awaiting your call and will be
happy to give you more information. Please pray about your possible
involvement in this vital ministry.

Dear Members and Friends of Liberty Road
Faith Fellowship,
"We live with hope into the future!" Those
were the words Bill and I said every step of
the way in our recent journey of illness,
treatment, and "celebration." Please know
that until the last ten days of his life, Bill
was fully planning to be back in the pulpit
with his "December lungs." That was not to
be, but the hope that LRFF would live its
way into the future with joy and hope was certainly Bill's dream for the
church. He tried to keep his hopes high, and always looked forward to
getting back with his "good, loving folks."
Thank you so much for your wonderful response to our needs during Bill's
illness, death, and memorial service. The past four months have been days
of incredible grace amid pain, and we have been fortunate to have the
blessing of time, enjoying our lives just a little longer. I am most thankful
for Bill's life, love, and ministry, and having known him as my husband,
partner, and soulmate is the blessing of a lifetime. Our time together with
each other and you has been precious. Thank you for welcoming us as
partners in ministry to LRFF.
I would like to express my thanks to everyone who made April 29, 2017,
a beautiful day in our memory for years to come. You honored Bill with
elegance, grace, and dignity. I appreciate everyone who made room for
the large crowd, spruced up the building, planned the reception, prepared
food for the reception, and coordinated special assistance (shuttle, video,

Pray for Jennifer Bacon, who will return to a village in Honduras in the Agalta Valley to help with the Art Program she started in the schools there. She will leave on May 6 and return on May 20. She will also finish the art work she began painting in one of the churches close by. She is Judy Brand’s daughter. Pray for Nanci Barnhart, who continues treatments for her cancer. (Ginny Berry) Pray for Andy Berry who has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, contained. He will begin radiation treatments soon. Pray for the six-year-old neighbor of David & Jackie Bondurant who is healing from surgery last week at
programs, flowers, etc.). The gifts of aesthetic beauty (food, beautiful set-
up, smiles, colors, joyful conversation) at the reception was the perfect
beginning for our congregation's journey into healing.
A special thanks to many in our church family, including Annetta Barlow,
Liz Berryman, Mitch Borders, Thelma Boswell, Mike Brown, the LRFF
Choir, John Clark, Richard Dwyer, Jim Hensley, Jim and Pat Host, Rachel
Jones, David Kirn, Charlotte Krasinski, Jim Pepperl, Leona Power, Scot
and Sarah Reeves, Greg Ritchie, Norma Smither, The Faith Troubadours,
and the LRFF Ushers. There were many others who contributed to the
memorial service, and I am filled with gratitude for each person who took
time to give of themselves. Bill would call that "being Church."
I know that Bill's most heartfelt desire was for LRFF to "live with hope
into the future," trusting in the goodness of God for blessing and guidance.
With God's help, this congregation can be all that we have envisioned in
our highest moments, and more. God bless us all in a healing,
invigorating journey of faith.
God's peace,
