A MOTHER’S COMFORT Do you know what today is? Is it Mother's day? It is Mother's Day. We
say thank you to moms for all that you do. Tell me about your mom---does
she do something special for you?
My mom told me about Jesus
and to love and respect people.
It's a great lesson.
Our moms and grandmothers
love us and teach us about God's
son Jesus. Does your mom give
you hugs? Those are special. Do
you give her lots of hugs? In
Isaiah 66:13 it says 'as a mother
comforts her child so I comfort
you.' He sent mothers here and
grandmothers to put their arms around you. Always remember God is always
with us all the time to comfort us---that's His promise to us. That's awesome!
Father God, thank You for mothers who love us, teach us and comfort us.
We thank You for always being with us. We love You. Amen.
When you go back to your seat, give your grandmother or mother a hug---
that's the best present!
-Ruth Davidson, Children’s Sermon, Mother’s Day (May 12, 2013)

TIME CAPSULE
In June, 1994, a very special wooden cross was handcrafted by member
Bill Pless, and given to the church. It wasn’t until recently known how very
special this cross really is. Bill’s daughter Deb found a copy of the instructions
Bill had used when he made this beautiful cross. It states: “The cross is not
just an original piece of Christian art, it is a container housing graphics to tell a
story.”
Today Bill’s cross hangs proudly in the front of the sanctuary. You can
imagine the care and time he put into it. Bill passed away on April 1, 2010,
but the beautiful work he shared is still with us… (Thanks to Marie & Deb
Pless for information.)
This narrow line represents the narrow road to Heaven.
Trinity: Father, Son, Holy Ghost
Follow in the footsteps of our Lord.
JE in Greek stands for one true God.
The big “S” is the most important part of the cross. Our SALVATION!
At the top of the cross in the “S” is the shape of a teardrop. Jesus wept for our sins.
This is the shepherd’s staff. Jesus is our shepherd.
These are the 2 fishes Jesus used to feed the 5000.
U can make a difference by telling others of Jesus’ love for them.
Take the “S” & put it with the “U” and you have “US”. We can make a difference in the world by telling others of Jesus’ love.
The cross is put together with 3 nails, representative of the nails that hung Jesus on the cross. (on back of cross)

AN ADORABLE LADY
An adorable lady, worthy of love in every way,
Special in sharing herself from day to day.
Moving from one event to another with goodness,
Seeking way for others to always bless.
Able to respond to Life’s most urgent
need
Since upon God’s Word she would feed.
Ready and willing to do her honest part,
And doing it so well from her loving
heart.
Indeed, a rare and beautiful woman, so
sincere,
One who was held in highest esteem as
dear!
Eager to be all that God had called her to
be,
And answering each call with joy for all
to see.
Bravely facing whatever she had to face,
Always the recipient of God’s amazing grace.
Ready each day to do what needed to be done,
With faith to always trust in God’s dear Son.
One with her family, daughter Linda, and Dale,
By faith always knowing that they’d prevail.
Wonderful the life that she could call her own;
Now fully blessed and known at God’s throne!
Needing nothing now, but the touch of her Master’s hand,
She will remain with Him forever in Heaven’s Land!

STRIKE ONE TREE A lightning strike from the early morning storm on April 3, left a large tree
split and smoking near Hershey Elementary. Located in the middle of an open
field on the west side of the school, it made quite a sight for the school
children arriving, as the buses drove by it that morning. With no structures
around it, it was allowed to burn itself out. All were glad that the tree took the
‘hit’ and it didn’t strike the school. A lot of excited children that morning!
PINWHEEL GARDEN Have you noticed the blue
pinwheels popping up around the
county? Curious, we stopped and
read the sign and took a photo. The
sign reads: “The pinwheel is a
symbol of a happy, carefree
childhood. This pinwheel garden
represents what we all want for every
child in Tippecanoe County.” –TCAP
(Tippecanoe Child Abuse Prevention
Council)
April is Child Abuse Prevention
Month. The pinwheels aren’t just in
our county, but all over the United
States. Pinwheels for Prevention
mission: “to prevent the abuse and
neglect of our nation’s children.” It
is a nationwide effort. “We all play a
role when it comes to the healthy development of our nation’s children.”

FIVE FINGER PRAYER…
Some of you have most likely heard of “The Five Finger Prayer”. Pat Miller
brought it to life during the Children’s Sermon on March 30, 2014…
Good morning! I’m going to talk about prayer this morning. Reads:
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you
may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. –
James 5:16 We talk about the burdens and troubles we have, an d we need to pray to
God and ask God to help ease them for us. I’ve talked about this before, but
it’s a good thing to come back to, THE FIVE FINGER PRAYER.
THE THUMB: the closes one to our hearts. Think about people closest to us,
our families, loved ones and special friends.
THE POINTER: stands for
those who teach us and lead us,
like Pastor Dwight.
THE TALL MAN: our
president and leaders, they
especially need our prayers right
now, it’s a troubled time in our
world.
RINGMAN: is actually the
weakest finger. Pray for the ill,
the weak, those in trouble and
need assistance.
PINKY: last but not least.
Pinky is the smallest, the amount of prayer devoted to ourselves. Think of the
problems and needs of every one else, and ours diminish and aren’t not quite
so hard after all.
Pat gave a cut-out paper hand to each child and ended with a prayer…
Dear Lord, we thank You for these lives, they are our future and we need to
pave the way for them. Let us be mindful of the needs of our fellow man.
Lead us down the path You choose… In Jesus’ precious name we pray,
Amen.
Distribution of the hands.

JOYFUL! JOYFUL! SOCKS! At long last,
the socks
collected in the
ending months of
2013 at
BCUMC, were
delivered to the
Lebanon
Children’s
Home! Due to
the very long and
snowy winter,
delivery had
been delayed by
four months.
Retta Whiteaker, Diane White, and Nancy Schnepp made the trek on April
12th
, representing the Ladies Missionary Society and BCUMC.
The ladies were met by one of the house parents at LCH, Kevin. He
accepted the 321
pairs of socks
with a smile and
a very gracious
thank you. One
of the residents,
Abigail, asked
the ladies if she
could give them
a tour of the
house, and she
did. Another
resident,
Brianna, helped
to transfer the
socks into
another
container so the
ladies could
have their sox
16
boxes back to use again. Brianna enjoyed looking at every single pair of
socks! She kept a few pairs she favored aside, and got to keep seven new
pairs---one for each day of the week. Oh, if you could have seen the smile on
her face!! What it meant to her to have those new socks was just pure joy.
Brianna loved the socks with designs, stripes and colors, but she was practical
too and took two white pairs.
Currently, there are 32 residents at the home. Diane, doing math in her
head, figured that
meant that every boy
and girl would have a
new pair for each day
of the week (and a
couple of spares).
Leaving the home,
the ladies made their
traditional stop at
Arni’s in Lebanon.
Arni’s Juniors all
around this time.
Marie Pless and
Maralyn Turner get
“honorable mention”
this year as they
wanted to go on the
delivery but didn’t
get to join us. Maybe this December?
Nancy, Retta & Diane at Arni’s
Fun with new socks!

grass grow on the hills. –Psalm 147:8

in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the

Me and the earth. –Genesis 9:13

falls toward the south or toward the north, wherever the tree falls, there it lies.
–Ecclesiastes 11:3
+ After He said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid
Him from their sight. –Acts 1:9
