…a message from the HOA president….
Greetings to all and hope you are having a wonderful summer….whether you are here with Luther and me or up north spending time with family and friends. I did not have a letter in our June newsletter as Luther and I were travelling and I was not able to meet the newsletter deadline. We travelled over 3,000 miles in a couple of weeks…..Pennsylvania (my family), Ohio (Luther’s family and our friends) and then to Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and home!!!! Exhausting!!!!! We came back to Saddle Oak to rest from our vacation!!!
By the time you read this we will have our new bingo machine installed……you voted and it passed with flying colors!!! We have many bingo players (especially in the winter months) and it has been the main source of entertainment in Saddle Oak for years….. so this is a very good thing for our community!!! Many thanks to those of you who took the time to vote! We have run into a little hiccup getting our internet and WiFi set up but it is being addressed and hopefully before long we will be up and running. I know many of you are looking forward to having Jim teach us some computer classes this fall….I know I need help!!
We are planning a 4th of July golf cart parade so dress your golf cart/bicycle and yourself in red, white and blue and join the fun. Then we are going to have a picnic lunch at the clubhouse followed by bingo in the afternoon. Hopefully it will not “rain on our parade” like it did on Memorial Day!!!!! When the 4th is over we have Christmas in July to look forward to.
This is the time of year when we have friends and relatives visiting us. Please remind your guests about the rules. Speed limits, both cars and golf carts, pet rules…remember the leash law and picking up after your pets, show them the rules posted at the pool, especially no eating and drinking in the pool area. It might be a good idea for our residents to “brush up” on the rules also!!
Let me sign off by thanking my fellow board members and residents. They have been so helpful to me in getting some issues addressed during the past year. I think our community is taking steps in the right direction and there any many people to thank for that…not just board members but many residents who have been so very helpful in making Saddle Oak Club a great place to live.
Have a great July and stay cool …..Tammie Hornsby

Run Circles Around Windows
One of the best features of Windows is that there are always several ways that you can do almost anything. And depending on the situation, and the in which you think/work, there are shortcuts you can use to your advantage.
If you like using the mouse with menus, you can do things that way. Or you can avoid wrestling with the
finicky trackpad on your laptop, and quickly get on with what you really wanted to do.
For example, when you are on the internet, and you want to scroll down a page, there's a bunch of different ways to do it. You could:
• click on the tiny down-arrow button on the screen a bunch of times.• click once on a blank spot on the side bar under the slider.• grab (click and hold) the side bar slider itself and pull it down.• use the wheel on the mouse or scroll feature of your trackpad.• tap the down-arrow key on the keyboard a bunch of times.• tap the page-down key on the keyboard.• tap the space-bar on the keyboard.
The space-bar is my favorite since it is a big, easy target.
In fact, whenever I see “press any key to continue” I will always use the space-bar because it is so easy to find.
And here's another neat trick: When you are on the internet, you can easily change the size of the letters on the screen by holding down the CTRL key and rolling the mouse wheel. Roll in one direction to increase the size of the letters, and roll the other direction to make the letters smaller. Let go of the CTRL key when you're finished.
This is another in a series of articles about computers and other technology written by Saddle Oak Club resident Jim Hanoian. You can send questions or comments to him via email at: [email protected].
A TRIBUTE TO FATHERS by FRAN FRITZ Fathers come in many forms - big and/or small; short and/or tall; young and/or old; timid and/or bold; good and/or bad; happy and/or sad; and etc. Last month in my article "A Tribute to Families" I mentioned that our DAD had raised my sister and I. To us he was the most wonderful father there ever was. Even though he has been gone for 31 years all four of us girls still feel that way about him. He was kind but firm, he was fun but took no nonsense from us, he was a friend but still was a father, he was thoughtful but we didn't get away with anything, he listened but his reasoning was word, I could say more but I’d rather just say to William Francis (Bud) Shotts - thanks for being our DAD. I hope each of you had as great of a father as we did and I hope that if not maybe there was a grandfather, an uncle, a brother or a friend that was/is a father figure to you and that you remembered that person in your thoughts this past Father's Day. Even better, I hope you got a chance to talk to him or see him. As long as I live I will hear my dad's voice whispering in my ears.
Thank you to the Garden Club for this lovely flower display in our community. Did you know it spells “SOC”?

MEMORIAL FOR ED ARMITAGE by Fran Fritz
On Sunday, May 20th of 2012 at 2:00 p.m. a memorial was held for Ed Armitage. Approximately 125 people were in attendance including several family members. Ed was born in Corain, Massachusetts om August 17th,1933. He was the beloved husband of Bonnie, the father of three children, served in the Korean war and received a purple heart. Ed was very active while living here in Saddle Oak. A while back he and Bonnie bought a second home in Williston on a little property and Ed loved it there. This information was my speech before we all said "The Lord's Prayer" together. Refreshments were served and Dick Ouimette gave a short speech about his and Ed's life long relationship and after Dick talked several others in the audience spoke. Before the service was closed Nancy Dougherty said a poem "MY GRIEF IS LIKE A RIVER". Thanks Nancy. As always I'd like to thank the other members of the Bereavement Committee - Grace Spiller who is always here to support and advise me and listen to things I have planned, Jeanne Kozlowski who sits at the greeting table and takes care of the cards people bring and sees to it that the guest book is signed, and Jean Stephens who does such a beautiful job of arranging the guest table. I'd like to thank all of you who are always so willing to help with these events. Katherine Sitkowski, Joan Ford, Marge Gordon, Suzanne May, Mike Dougherty and Judy Miller gave helping hands this time and did a fine job. I need to apologize to those of you who did not get cake. This time I filled in with cookies. It is very hard to determine how many will be in attendance to a memorial and especially since so many people had left to go north. Thanks again and God bless.
BITS AND PIECES…………. VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH
Volunteer of the month for July is Jackie Barth.
Jackie does the Bits and Pieces for the Saddle
Oak Newsletter which is no easy task. It
requires getting articles together, meeting
deadlines, attending meetings, etc. Without
volunteers like Jackie there would be no
newsletter. Thank you, Jackie for being such an
asset to our newsletter.
THANK YOU, AND YOU AND YOU….!!!
*I want to thank all my Saddle Oak friends for
your support during my stay in the hospital.
Your cards, calls, visits and especially the

Luther for being so accommodating in
providing medical equipment.
Hazel Wickstrom

the clubhouse. Also thanks to the HOA for

were left on my doorstep with no name. I have

paint, and foam visor hats in green, pink or
chartreuse to decorate for anyone interested. I

collected your greeting cards. We have a
collection box in the Library. Just call me or

*The Saddle Oak Newsletter team wants to
thank Diana Phinney for her may years of
service as the Circulation Manager of the
newsletter. Every month she managed the
carriers and made sure our newsletters were
delivered in a timely fashion. She always made
sure that the correct number of newsletters were
printed. Not an easy task with our residents
coming and going. Thank you, Diana, for many
years of hard work
ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS
To help defray the cost of printing the
newsletter, the volunteer carriers need to know
what homes to deliver to, so please let me know
if you will be leaving for an extended period of
time. Also, please let me know when you return
to have your newsletter start again. Thank you.

Water Fun / Fitness
As all the water aerobic lovers know,
one of our leaders, Kay Fiedler, has
resigned from the job. She did a
terrific job keeping us fit and while
we are often “whining”, we learned a
lot from Kay. So from all of us,
THANK YOU, KAY! We appreciated
all your time and effort you put into
the water aerobics.
But now that we don’t have Kay
anymore to keep us fit, we are looking
for a leader – with or without
certificate – to continue our water
fitness group.
We will try to make a new start with a
new program and music. For the time
being, we are having our swim hour,
twice a week from 10 – 11 AM on
Mondays and Wednesdays. We hope
to do some water exercise, with not
just aerobics, but also some fitness
between the lines.
The existing group is still very
motivated and wants to continue being
healthy, fit and having a good time.
We hope to motivate more residents
to join us and, hopefully, there will
also be a person who wants to take
turns with me to lead the group.
NOTE: It is no longer a water
aerobics lesson, but we try to stay fit
and healthy with this fun way of
exercise. It’s not really a MUST to
know how to swim. You can join in
shallow water as well.
Want to join, or want to help me
keeping our group going, call Terry
Jansen at 304-8195 or

JUNE IN SOC
Recently you may have
noticed one of our new
residents, Paulette
McNally, riding around
the neighborhood tak-
ing photographs and
wondered why. She
hopes everyone would
enjoy her addition to
our newsletter, and has
promised not to be inva-
sive to anyone’s privacy.
But if something is
REALLY funny, you may
find it here next month!
Watch out, kids. If you leave your bike laying around,
Grandma will make a flowerpot out of it!
