From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

4th Sunday of Lent: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son…” (John 3:16). Of all the wonderful gifts that God has given to us, the gift of His own Son is truly the greatest. How can we ever thank God for a gift like that? God does not ask us to sacrifice our own precious firstborn, but He does ask that we are grateful and generous with our God-given gifts. That we nurture and develop them and return with increase.

1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a: God’s choice of people throughout the biblical tradition is often surprising. Saul is rejected by God because Saul himself had “rejected the command of he Lord.” Because of Saul’s unworthiness as king, God assigns him the task of finding the next chosen king and anoint him. Anointing with oil was a sign of God’s choice, and consecrated a person for office. Samuel anoints Davis as God commands him. By leaving David’s name unmentioned until the last verse, the narrator reinforces the unlikely choice of David. .

Ephesians 5:8-14: Paul says “Live (walk) as children of the light,” a verb form that means to do so on a sustained basis. Walking in the Lord’s light is no temporary activity, but encompasses everything believers do. Paul emphasizes how believers are to conduct their lives: “Watch carefully how you live (walk), not as foolish persons, but as wise.”

John 9:1-41: As the once-blind man gains deeper insight, the evangelist sets up an intriguing contrast. The Pharisees, who think they can see, grow more and more blind. They state confidently that Jesus is not from God and that they know he is a sinner. They do ironically hit on the truth when they ridicule the newly sighted man. After telling him that they are disciples of Moses, they say of Jesus, “we do not know where this one is from.” Yet, the Anthropos know that Jesus is from God, while the Pharisees remain in blindness.

CRS RICE BOWL- ENCOUNTER LENT: We are called to love our neighbor and to reflect on how an encounter with our neighbor, as companions on life’s journeys, can be transformative. Our prayers, fasting and alms support those worldwide who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities. Through prayer, we encounter Christ, present in the faces of every member of our human family. Through fasting, we encounter our own obstacles, those things about ourselves that prevent us from loving God and neighbor. Through almsgiving, we encounter our brothers and sisters around the world, asking what we can give up so that others might have life to the fullest. Rice Bowls are available in the vestibule, and will be collected at the end of Lent.

FAVORITE QUOTE: "Happiness can only be achieved by looking inward and learning to enjoy whatever life has, and this requires transforming greed into gratitude." ~ St. John Chrysostom

MEDITATON OF THE DAY: "The Eucharist is alive. If a stranger who knew nothing about the Eucharist were to watch the way we receive, would he know this? When you and I approach the Eucharist, does it look like we believe we are about to take into our bodies the living person, Jesus Christ, true God and true man? How many times, Lord, have I forgotten that the Eucharist is alive! As I wait in line to receive you each day, am I thinking about how much you want to unite yourself with me? Am I seeing your hands filled with the graces you want to give me? Am I filled with awe and gratitude that you love me so much as to actually want to come to me in this incredibly intimate way? Or am I distracted, busy with other thoughts, preoccupied with myself and my agendas for the day? How many times, Jesus, have I made you sad, mindlessly receiving you into my body, into my heart, with no love and no recognition of your love? How many times have I treated you as a dead object? The Host that we receive is not a thing! It’s not a wafer! It’s not bread! It’s a person – He’s alive!" ~ Vinny Flynn

AN INTERESTING DAY AT SUNDAY SCHOOL Nine-year-old Joey was asked by his mother what he had learned at Sunday school.

"Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the Red Sea, he had his engineers build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely.

"Then he used his walkie-talkie to radio headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved."

"Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his mother asked.

"Well, no. But if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe it!"
