July 2017 A Message From Our Executive Director Always Open Years ago I learned a valuable lesson that has stuck with me through the years. Our church was stepping forward in a big way to minister to some of the homeless in our city. One particular afternoon, we loaded up the bus with some of our folks, lots of blankets, and a heart to help. The day was cold and grew colder as the evening took over the day. One of our teenagers took off her coat and gave it to a homeless teen who was living under a bridge and had no coat. It was a wonderful moment. We helped serve a meal, hugged those we had met, then headed back to our side of town. One thing that was said to me while we were serving that evening helped me tremendously. The gentleman's statement was really just in passing, "Ya know, these folks aren't just cold and hungry at Thanksgiving, but they're hungry in February and July also." Now I see what he had seen play out in a big way here at Camp Hope. Don't get me wrong, it is FANTASTIC to see companies reach out and provide Christmas parties for our residents and staff. It truly is a sight to see. I also see the need every day, every week, every month of the year. Just this week we have had multiple vets reaching out in crisis, our team reach out to them, and save lives. One vet told me on Tuesday night, "About to sleep forever. Thank you, sir, for everything you did and are doing. I can't do this anymore." Our team reached out immediately. An hour later, he was safe, and he then told me, "Thank you for everything...keep doing what you do." We have the privilege of doing what we do because of you, our volunteers and supporters. You understand what it took me some time to learn, the need never takes time off, the opportunities to serve are always there. You enable us to meet those opportunities, through prayers, financial contributions, donating automobiles, bottled water, and lots of food. We grow this Road to Hope, not by spending dollars on commercials and marketing, but by you spreading the word and telling the story of why you are a part of this team to those you know. Why Do We Celebrate The 4th Of July Why do we celebrate the 4th of July? That was the questionasked by two young sisters. That question prompted the younggirls, their family and friends to set up a lemonade stand in thefront of their community in Spring, TX. The result....they were ableto raise over $700.00 in the first two hours! With the generosityof their parents and other generous donors a grand total of$1,810.00 was raised.
