A Culture of Honor Reflections by Darren Varensburg, OM Ecuador | Saraguro John 13:35 “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." This is something many of us in OM Ecuador have on our hearts these days: do people change because of a program? A service? No doubt God can use these things. But have you ever thought of culture as a potential agent of change? People act according to cultural values and norms without even thinking about what these are, whether ethnic, subculture, or the culture of a school, church or organization. Culture can be a powerful vehicle of change to those who come into contact with it, negatively (hanging out with the wrong crowd), or positively. What if this is something as rare and beautiful as a culture of honor? As those on our team, in our youth group here in Saraguro, in the local church, begin to treat one another with honor, with a love so practical, so real, and so foreign to the world, that’s when people will know we are truly His disciples and want to know how it’s possible! As we have begun sharing this with the youth, we have already seen tears and a desire to be people who treat others this way!” Creating a culture of honor within OM Ecuador At our 2014 team retreat, the OM Ecuador team developed a code of honor by which we agreed to conduct ourselves in honor to God, and to each other. Praise & Petitions through Prayer

Saraguro

In the southern region of Saraguro, Ecuador, OM’s youth ministry lacks the presence of young men in the community. Please pray that more young men would join and consistently seek to be involved so they may rise up and be leaders amongst their families.

Quito

As our local team representative in the country’s capital of Quito cont inues to expand OM’s presence there, please join in prayer that God would provide essential contacts to better channel our attention toward the northern provinces of Ecuador.

To support the ministry of OM Ecuador with a gift or donation, kindly visit www.omusa.org/give. Please be sure to insert: “OM Ecuador Donation”, or the specific name of a project or missionary in the comments box.

Thank you for your partnership!

“From the moment I received the call of God to share His Good News, He has opened many doors so that I could serve Him in response to that call. Sharing about His love through sports with OM Ecuador SportsLink is one of those doors.”

Cristian Molina [email protected]

OM Ecuador |SportsLink

“God has given me the opportunity to serve Him through music, short-term outreaches, and now sports. Through your prayer and support of OM SportsLink, the souls of young boys and girls will be won for Christ here in Ecuador.”
