Mind & Brain Mind is related to brain. Most people

do not find any difference between the two words mind and brain.

While brain is considered to be a physical thing, mind is considered to be mental


Mind & Brain The brain is composed of nerve cells

and blood vessels whereas the mind is not like that. While the brain has a definite shape, the mind does not have one. We can see and touch the brain whereas it is not possible to do this with the mind.


Mind & Brain If the brain ceases to function, then

life would cease to exist. If the mind ceases to function, then

you would have a dull and unproductive life.


Soul & Spirit The soul is the essential life of man

‘looking earthward’ and the ‘spirit’ that same principle of life breathed (like wind) into man from God, that can look towards and experience God


Soul & Spirit The whole spirit/soul, including mind,

emotions and will, the higher, as well as lower powers of our nature, are the seat and subject of original sin.

The 'natural man' is disabled and made opposite to all spiritual good.


Soul & Spirit The conflict is between nature and

what is not nature, between the old and new man.

The new man is spiritual rather than natural, because it is the essential nature of man looking heaven ward called 'spirit'.

The mind is both representative of the soul and the spirit as part of our essential life


The Mind, Soul & Spirit

Lets Look at the conflict. Romans 7:14 -23 14 For we know that the law is

spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

The Mind, Soul & Spirit The mind controls our thoughts. If I

never get my mind right then my thoughts will not be right.

My thoughts controls my actions, if I can’t control my thoughts then it becomes impossible to control my actions.

As a man thinks in mind, so is he. You are your thoughts.




I cannot get to a state of renewing (to make new) my mind if I don’t have control of my mind.

How do I control my mind?

device. We lose control We hold grudges We don’t confess We have trouble forgiving other We have trouble forgiving ourselves


The Mind, Soul & Spirit I Corinthians 10:3-5

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)



5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;


The Conflict Romans 7:22-26 [22] For I delight in the law of God

after the inward man: The inward man — Called the mind


The Conflict [23] But I see another law in my

members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. But I see another law in my members —

Another inward forcing power of evil dispositions and bodily appetites.


The Conflict Warring against the law of my mind

— The dictate of my mind, which delights in the law of God.

And captivating me — In spite of all my resistance


The Conflict [21] I find then a law, that, when I

would do good, evil is present with me. I find then a law — An inward forcing

power, flowing from the dictate of corrupt nature.


The Conflict [24] O wretched man that I am! who

shall deliver me from the body of this death? The struggle is now come to the height;

and Paul is finding there is no help in or within himself


The Conflict [25] I thank God through Jesus Christ our

Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Serve the law of God with my mind — My

reason and conscience declare for God. But with my flesh the law of sin — But

my corrupt passions and appetites still rebel.


The Mind Consciousness

is the quality or state of awareness, or, of being aware of an external object or something within oneself.

It has been defined as: sentience, awareness, subjectivity, the ability to experience or to feel, wakefulness, having a sense of selfhood, and the executive control system of the mind

The Mind Distinction between two types of

consciousness that he called phenomenal (P-consciousness) and access (A-consciousness).


The Mind P-consciousness

is simply raw experience: it is moving, colored forms, sounds, sensations, emotions and feelings with our bodies and responses at the center. These experiences, considered independently of any impact on behavior


The Mind A-consciousness

is the phenomenon whereby information in our minds is accessible for verbal report, reasoning, and the control of behavior.


The Mind When we perceive, information about

what we perceive is access conscious; when we introspect, information about our thoughts is access conscious; when we remember, information about the past is access conscious, and so on.


The Mind The subconscious mind is a

composite of everything one sees, hears and any information the mind collects that it cannot otherwise consciously process to make meaningful sense.


The Mind The conscious mind cannot always

absorb disconnected information, as it would be an information overload, so the subconscious mind stores this information where it can be retrieved by the conscious mind when it needs to defend itself for survival (and for other reasons, such as solving puzzles).


The Mind There are also a variety of

circumstances that can change the relationship between the mind and the world in less drastic ways, producing what are known as altered states of consciousness.


The Mind Some altered states occur naturally;

others can be produced by drugs or brain damage.

Altered states can be accompanied by changes in thinking, disturbances in the sense of time, feelings of loss of control, changes in emotional expression, alternations in body image and changes in meaning or significance.


The Mind Meditation and dreams are both

Transformation Control Transformation Renewal

“transformed”. To be transformed means to make a thorough or dramatic change


Transformation Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the

pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” What does that mean and how do you do

that?


Transformation The word that is translated

"conformed" has to do with conformation that is malleable –– The person who is conformed to this

world is free to embrace the next popular philosophy or fad at will.

Being conformed to this world is rather like being a leaf blown by the wind, never knowing exactly where you are going next


Transformation The word that is translated

"transformed," however, is quite different, and involves transformation at the core of one's being

If being "conformed" would leave us adrift like a leaf, being "transformed" leaves us with feet on the ground, anchored and steady


Transformation Paul is calling us not to be caught up

in every fad or wafted by every breeze, but instead to let the Spirit transform us at our core so that we can have a faith strong enough to maintain course in spite the winds of popular opinion.


Transformation Ephesians 4:20-23

20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;


Transformation

23 to be made new(change in the mind) in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.


Transformation Transformation in this text equates to

metamorphosis. The example of metamorphosis that

comes to mind is the caterpillar, which is transformed into a butterfly

The caterpillar is not beautiful, but the butterfly is. The caterpillar crawls, but the butterfly flies on gossamer wings.


Transformation Transformation

Gardeners don't like caterpillars, but plant special plants to attract butterflies

So it is by the grace of God and the work of the Holy Ghost that we who were one thing (conformed to this age) can be transformed (metamorphosized) into something wholly different –– people who are Godly and holy.


Transformation Transformation Is Not Just External Nonconformity to the world does not

primarily mean the external avoidance of worldly behaviors.

You can avoid all kinds of worldly behaviors and not be transformed.


Transformation Transformation is not switching from

the to-do list of the flesh to the to-do list of the law

The alternative to immoral behaviors is not a new list of moral behaviors.


Transformation If I don't transform my mind then it

can control the level at which I believe. I can only live and operate at the level at which I believe. My mind controls what I believe.


Transformation Today, we would be more likely to

speak of a "change of mind" than a renewal of the mind.

Paul, however, calls us to allow the Holy Ghost to transform our minds, knowing that the person who learns to think Godly thoughts will soon experience a changed mind as well.


Transformation Six Steps to Transform your mind

1. You begin each morning end each night by humbling yourself. To humble yourself, you must admit your helplessness to follow the teachings of Christ and to acquire his character on your own



2. Discover the great power, love, fulfillment and life when Christ’s Holy Spirit lives inside of you. And His power has unlimited potential.

3. Take every one of your thoughts (beliefs, imaginations, dreams, and ideas) captive to the obedience of Christ.



4. Guard your heart; you are what you think. (Proverbs 23:7) Also, whatever thoughts you sow into your mind, you will reap the consequences. (Galatians 6:7) You become what you think!



5. Now that you have this new power within you and you are controlling your thoughts, the words coming out of your mouth can be honorable not unwholesome. (Ephesians 4:29)



6. Finally, when you experience trials you can actually exalt, boast, honor your trials and weaknesses and start thinking about how much joy you will have.
