--Alabama Hills Loop--Ride up Whitney Portal Road approximately 2.6 miles to small dirt road to the right that leads to a bridge crossing the creek.

Cross the bridge and continue up a gradual ascent. About a mile in, a prominent arch can be seen on the eastern horizon. The road climbs near two solitary rocky knolls, crosses a wash, then begins a ascent towards the Alabama Hills. Climb into a rocky

pass through the heart of the hills and then a short technical descent takes you through a wash and onto a road that leads back to Movie Flat, 13.3 miles

--Kearsarge--It was in 1862 that southern sympathizers, to celebrate the maritime victories of the confederate ship Alabama, named the

unique hills to the west of lone pine. When the northern ship Kearsarge caught the Alabama off the coast of France two years later and sank it. Northern sympathizers in Independence named a pass, a mountain, and even the town, Kearsarge, that no

longer exists.

--Alabama Hills--Home to Hollywood’s most famous movie locations, the Alabama Hills host over 200 routes from cracks to sustained sports

climbs. Excellent access, great weather and an abundance of holds make these hills a great climbing destination. The Alabama Dome and The Ghosts are two excellent introductory areas.
