WHAT ARE FORESTS?A forest is a large area of land covered with trees or other woody vegetation. There are millennium of forests in this world. Today we`ll learn about the soil types and the constituents (in%) of 5 forests.NAMELY-Baikunthapur Forest Tongass National Forest Chugach National Forest Gribskov Forest Charnwood Forest

BAIKUNTHAPUR FORESTBaikunthapur is a Terai forest region in the western part of

the Dooars in West Bengal, India, south of the Himalayan foothills,

Soil Type-consists of very fine white sand inter-layered with ochre yellow sticky silty clay and overlain by dark grey to thick silty loam.

Constituents-5% forest, 15% tea garden, 43% cultivated and non-cultivated land and 37% water bodies, residential, hill etc.

TONGASS NATIONAL FOREST The Tongass National Forest in south-

eastern Alaska is the largest national forest in the United States at 17 million acres (69,000 km2).

Soil Type-The terrain underlying the forest is divided between karst (limestone rock, well-drained soil, and many caves) and granite (poorly drained soil).

Constituents-40% wetlands, snow, ice, rocks and non- vegetation & 60% will remain intact.

CHUGACH NATIONAL FOREST The Chugach National Forest is a 6,908,540-acre

(27,958 km2) United States National Forest in south central Alaska.

Soil Type- aluminium soil (delta) Constituents-21% forest, 30% ice, 49% parts of Prince William

Sound

GRIBSKOV FOREST Gribskov (Grib Forest) is Denmark's fourth largest

forest, comprising c. 5,600 ha of woodland situated in northern Zealand, west and south of Lake Esrum. The forest is owned and administered by the State of Denmark.

Soil Types- Moraine Hills Constituents- 18% forest, 49% ponds, lakes and wetlands, 33% water bodies, residential, etc
