The Government Engineering College Kozhikode was
started by the Government of Kerala, in August
1999. It is an institution under the Department of
Technical Education, Kerala. It has been rated
among top technical institutes in Kerala, with
students admitted purely on the basis of merit.
Over the years, the college developed a vast
infrastructure, and has shown a steady growth. It is
worth mentioning the following milestones in the
history of GECK
1999-Commencement of B-Tech in Applied
Electronics and Instrumentation, Chemical, and
Mechanical Departments.
2006-Commencement of B-Tech in Civil
Engineering Departments.
2011-Commencement of M-Tech in Chemical
Engineering Departments.
2012-Commencement of M-Tech in Applied
Electronics and instrumentation and Mechanical
Engineering Departments.
2012-Commencement of B-Tech program in
Electronics and Communication Engineering in
Applied Electronics and Instrumentation
Engineering Department.
The undergraduate programs have an annual
intake of 66 students in each. The Institute
currently has post graduate courses in
Computer aided process design, Signal
Processing and Energy Systems and design
with an annual intake of 18 students in each
program.
The college has an extensive in-campus library
with a vast reference section. It also has
central computing facility, which provides
student access to international journals keeping
them up to date with the technological
innovations in the corporate world. The college
is affiliated to the Abdul Kalam Technological
University (KTU), approved by the All India
Council for Technical Education(AICTE). The
institute accredited by NBA. In the past years
the institute has witnessed excellent
placements and our alumni are working in
prestigious companies around the globe.

The department started in 1999 with B-Tech in
Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering.
Later in 2012 the department started B-Tech in
Electronics and Communications Engineering and M-
Tech in Signal Processing. The departments has
highly qualified and committed faculty members. The
Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering
department offers qualify education to both
undergraduates and post graduate level
There are around 400 students including UG and
PG. The faculty members are specialized in Signal
Processing, Embedded Systems, Digital
Communication, VLSI Design etc.
The academic activities are supported by state of
the art laboratories that include Electronics circuits ,
Process Control Instrumentation, Analog
Communication, Linear Integrated Circuits,
Microprocessors and Microcontroller and DSP
Laboratories. The faculty has been actively offering
consultancy services to industries and conducting and
attending courses regularly to facilitate the continuing
education.

The EISA conducts lectures , seminars
and workshops by eminent professionals
from industries and reputed technical
institutes regularly for overall technical
development of students of Electronics
Engineering.
CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
The Chemical Engineering Department
offers academic programs leading to B-
Tech and M-Tech in Computer Aided
Process Design . Several academic and
co-curricular activities are organized ever
ear to bring up the department as a centre
of excellence. The faculty members are
specialized in Process Control, Plant
design Polymer and Environmental
Engineering . The academic activities are
supported by Chemical technology,
Environmental Engineering, Heat Transfer,
Process Control and Chemical Reaction
Engineering laboratories. A very
imaginative and meticulously-planned
curriculum, designed to meet the
requirements of the industry, helps the
students to face the global challenges. It
provides the students with analytically and
innovative skills to solve various types of
industrial problems.
ACESThis is an association for all the
students of Chemical Engineering
department. It conducts several
student level programs aiming at
acquiring the students with the
difficulties and challenges faced by
the industries. ACES also arranges
technical talks by eminent
professionals and resource persons
from industries. It also offers
interaction programs with faculties
from reputed institutes and other
organization.
CIVIL ENGINEERING
The Civil Engineering Department offers
academic programs leading to B-Tech in
Civil Engineering. The Department has 12
faculty members. The faculty members are
specialized in Structural Engineering, Water
Resource Engineering, Geotechnical
Engineering, Transportation Engineering,
etc. The academic activities are supported
by Material Testing, Strength of Materials
lab, Geo-Technical Engineering lab,
Transportation Engineering lab,
Environmental Engineering lab, Survey and
CAD laboratories. The faculty has been
active in offering consultancy services to
industries and conducting and attending
courses regularly to facilitate the continuing
education.
CIVIL ENGINEERING

(CESA)
CESA conducts regular programs at
UG level to enhance subject interest
as well as extra curricular interests.
The association familiarizes the
students with the latest technologies ,
management and production
practices which are used in the
industry by arranging various
technical talks and industrial
interaction programs.
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
The department offers academic programs
leading to B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering
and M-Tech in Energy System Analysis and
Design. The department has 36 PG students.
The faculty members are specialized in
Mechanical Engineering Design,
Manufacturing Engineering , Industrial
Engineering and Thermal & Fluids Engineering.
The academic activities are supported by
Production, Fluid Mechanics and Machinery,
CAD/CAM, Measurement and Instrumentation
and Thermal laboratory. The faculty has been
active in offering consultancy services to
industries and conducting and attending
courses regularly to facilitate the continuing
education.

student wing of Mechanical
Engineering Departments. This
association familiarizes the students

APPLIED SCIENCE
Applied Science is a
supporting branch to all other
engineering branch in Government
Engineering College Kozhikode. The
Department consist of highly
qualified faculty members in basic
sciences and the associated
laboratory staffs. There are faculty
members in Mathematics,
Chemistry, and Physics. The
department takes part actively in the
day–to-day activities of the college
and contributes to various
development programs of the
college in cooperation with other
departments. The department is
facilitated with separate laboratories
for Physics and Chemistry.
THE CAREER GUIDANCE AND
PLACEMENT CELL
The Career Guidance and Placement
Cell (CGPC) of the college is a
voluntary organization guided by
faculty members and the student
representatives. The objectives of the
unit are to provide guidance and
assistance for the students to
achieve their career goals and Jobs
in India.
The unit takes right steps in
identifying the current demands of
the industry and prepares students
towards this objective. Adequate
emphasis is given for soft skill
development complementing the
regular academic programs.

The college proudly owns an IEEE students chapter.
It helps students get updated on their technical
knowledge. Seminars and discussions, are conducted
on recent advancements in technology.
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL
ENGINEERS (IIChE)
The college owns an IIChE student chapter. IIChE
provides National level exposure for chemical
engineers and voluntarily conduct various technical
seminars and discussions.

INSTITUTE FACILITIES
CENTRAL COMPUTING FACILITY
Apart from sufficient computing facilities
in each department, the college has a
Central Computing Facility with PCs and
workstations. The CCF is equipped with
over 75 clients machines, several Server
Class Machines, High Speed LAN, Cisco
Router etc. Students shall get ample
opportunities to develop their knowledge in
the field of information and communication
technology and software development skills
in UNIX environment. A leased line connects
the CCF to the internet. The centre offers
free internet connectivity to the students
and faculty members. The institution has
internet connectivity of 40 GBPS
bandwidth.
LIBRARY
The college library has a good collection of
technical books (more than 16000 titles)
catering to the needs of students in all the
branches. The library has separate lending
and reference sections with a vast area of
titles under all disciplines. All the students and
staff of the college are members of the
library.
The Technical Library and Documentation
Centre is computerized. International and
national technical journals and periodicals are
subscribed in the library.
A computerized library information system
with search facility is implemented. The audio-
visual section maintains CD-ROMS on
engineering subjects. The project and seminar
reports of students are kept. A section is
devoted to general reading books. Books to
prepare for competitive examinations like
GATE, GRE and TOEFL are stocked.
EDUSATThe college has direct uplink/downlink facility with
EDUSAT and has six IT enabled smart class rooms
with LCD projectors and laptops and other smart
systems.
LANGUAGE LABGEC Kozhikode has a well equipped and well
maintained language lab. Hardware setup consist of
a server and 30 clients all with Oral Digital
Language Lab (ODLL) software installed in it. ODLL
is a popular language learning software solution.
The interactive and cost effective language learning
platform is very user friendly.
LABORATORIESGEC Kozhikode has well equipped laboratories with
state-of-the-art facilities. There are UG level
laboratories as well as highly sophisticated
research facilities.
HOSTEL
GECK has one ladies hostel with an intake of 150.
Procedure for hostel admission is as per the institute
norms. The students and other activities in the hostels
are under the supervision of a warden.
CO-OPERATIVE STOREStationeries like books, uniform cloth, tea coasters,
bags etc. are available at the GEC Co operative
store, situated on the ground floor of the main building.
CANTEENCanteen is functioning in the college for staff and
students. Separate dining spaces for staff and
students, clean and hygienic food at affordable price
are provided.
The institute recognizes its alumni, who have
distinguished themselves through their work
and made the institute proud. The institute also
involves the alumni in its educational and
research activities whenever possible, by
inviting them to participate on its advisory
boards as visiting faculty or as guest speakers.

TECH FESTOver the years Lakshya emboldens to tune
the young engineering minds to embrace
the future and recognize the growing
demand for radically extinguishing energy
sources. The plethora of events includes
hardware & software design contests, paper
presentations, quiz , technical talks etc . The
three day long technical fiesta brings
together the best brains of Kerala in one
frame and witness them perform, compete,
collaborate and excel. A technical festival
that gives an exposure to technical skills.
