Runner Block Assembly Note: The arrows in figures represent the fabric print direction. Pay attention to the orientation of the fabric when assembling the various components.1. Place (1) 3” Fabric B square on the left side of (1) 3” x 5 ½” Fabric C strip, right sides together (Fig. 1). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 1). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 2). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.

2. Place another 3” Fabric B square on the right side of the 3” x 5 ½” Fabric C strip, right sides together (Fig. 3). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 3). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 1 strip (Fig. 4).

3. Repeat Steps 1-2 to make (8) Unit 1 strips total.

4. Sew (1) 3” Fabric C square to each end of (1) Unit 1 strip to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew (1) Unit 1 strip to each side of (1) 5 ½” Fabric A square to make the middle row. Sew the (3) rows together to make (1) Block One square (Fig. 5). Repeat to make a second Block One square.

5. Sew (1) 1” x 20 ½” Fabric E strip to the top and bottom of the 9 ½” x 20 ½” Fabric D strip. Sew (1) Block One square to each end of the newly sewn strip to make the Center Block (Fig. 6).

6. Place (1) 6 ⅞” Fabric H square on top of (1) 6 ⅞” Fabric G square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square (Fig. 7). Sew ¼” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 7). Cut the (2) squares apart on the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 8) to make (2) half-square triangles. Trim the half-square triangles to measure 6 ½” square to make (2) Unit 2 squares (Fig. 9). Repeat to make (4) Unit 2 squares total.

7. Place (1) 3 ½” Fabric G square on the bottom right corner (Fabric H) of (1) Unit 2 square, right sides together (Fig. 10). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 10). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle ¼” away from the sewn seam to make (1) Unit 3 square (Fig. 11). Repeat to make (4) Unit 3 squares total.

9. Follow Figure 14 for the seam direction to add a 3 ½” Fabric G square to the lower half of the 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric H strip to make (1) Unit 4 strip (Fig. 15).

10. Repeat Steps 8-9 to make (18) Unit 4 strips total.

11. Repeat Steps 8-9 and refer to Figure 16 for fabric identification, placement and seam direction to make (18) Unit 5 strips.

12. Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to the left side of (1) Unit 5 strip lengthwise to make (1) 6 ½” Unit 6 square (Fig. 17). Repeat to make (18) Unit 6 squares total.

8. Place (1) 3 ½” Fabric G square on the top half of (1) 3 ½” x 6 ½” Fabric H strip, right sides together (Fig. 12). Sew across the diagonal of the small square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 12). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 2). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle ¼” away from the sewn seam.

13. Sew together (2) Unit 6 squares to make (1) Side Border (Fig. 18). Repeat to make a second Side Border.

Runner Top Assembly (Follow the Runner Layout (Fig. 20) while assembling the Runner top.)15. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 10 ½” Fabric F strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 42 ½” Fabric F strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

16. Sew (1) Side Border to each side of the Center Block. Sew the Top Border and Bottom Border to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the runner top.

14. Sew together (7) Unit 6 squares. Sew (1) Unit 3 square to each end of the newly sewn strip to make the Top Border (Fig. 19). Repeat to make the Bottom Border.

17. Layer and quilt as desired.

18. Sew the (4) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric F strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

19. Bind as desired.

20. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 10 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of (1) 10 ½” Fabric A square. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 12 ½” Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A square. Trim the block to measure 11 ½” square to make (1) Unit 1 square (Fig. 21). Repeat to make (6) Unit 1 squares total.

21. Sew (1) 1” x 11 ½” Fabric C strip to each side of (1) Unit 1 square. Sew (1) 1” x 12 ½” Fabric C strip to the top and to the bottom of the Unit 1 square to make (1) Block One square (Fig. 22). Repeat to make (6) Block One squares total.

22. Place (1) 1 ½” Fabric D square on the left side of (1) 1 ½” x 2 ½” Fabric E strip, right sides together (Fig. 23). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 23). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 24). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.

23. Place another 1 ½” Fabric D square on the right side of the 1 ½” x 2 ½” Fabric E strip, right sides together (Fig. 25). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 25). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 2 strip (Fig. 26).

24. Repeat Steps 22-23 to make (24) Unit 2 strips total.
