FROM THE MANAGER’S DESK

Never forget: As September 11th nears, we are reminded of that fateful day in 2001 where many innocent American lives were lost. It’s a memory of tragedy and shock, of loss and mourning.

But, it’s also a memory of bravery and self-sacrifice. America was brought to her knees, but we im-

mediately stood up and banned together. Please take a moment to pay tribute to the lives that were lost, and to the men and women that continue to fight for our freedom everyday. We sa-lute you.

On Monday, September 2, the Sales Office will be closed in observance of the

Labor Day Holiday. Refuse pick up will be Saturday, September 7th.

Congratulations! The winner of the $100 Wade’s Gift Card is Dottie Domalski!! Scoop Editor, Liz Temple, pulled your name at the 8/21 meeting.

The closing of the pool signals the end of summer… Looking ahead to next season, we are in the process of getting ready to do some work on the pool. We hope you all had an enjoyable summer.

SCHOOL'S IN SESSION: It is that time of year again. Please watch for the children and the big yellow buses with flashing lights. You must STOP when the lights are flashing. We wish all the Gypsum Mills children a fantastic school year!

False: If someone is using my name to get jobs in here, I did not send them. Ask to see their certificate of liability insurance. You have that right. As every one knows, I do not send out so-licitors. If they are using my name send them away. If you need someone to help you out, go to the Service Directory that is for Gypsum Mills residents. If you need one, stop by the Office.

Roger Carpenter informed me of a concern he has about people riding their golf carts without headlights in the evening hours. He did not see a person driving in the evening of August 14th and almost hit them with his truck. Very dangerous situation for both.

Pam Wennergren has made a complaint about cats in the neighborhood. I did call animal con-trol. There is no law against cats. I was told you can write your congressman. They can make a law for cat nuisances I guess. There are rules and regulations that cats must be tethered with their owner while outside within Gypsum Mills Estates. Unfortunately some cats are escape artists. If the animal becomes a nuisance or damages another home owners property, the cat or dog owners may be liable for damages through a Court of Law. i.e. destroying gardens, screen doors, window screens, porch furniture and or fabric, etc.

Snow Birds: I’m guessing you are thinking about heading South already. As a reminder, please stop in the Sales Office and update your emergency contact information before leaving. [Day of departure and return.] Thank you and enjoy your Winter. Be safe.

WIFI was down in the Community Center for a while. We found out that the cordless phones were interfering, so Time Warner boosted the signal. Hopefully it is working now.

One last thing, please take a moment and fill out the RESIDENT PROFILE SHEET that is inserted in the Scoop and return it to the Sales Office. If you do not have any changes you do not have fill one out. Many residents have made changes in their lives like emer-gency contacts, phone number, vehicles, occupants & pets. These are things we need to know in order to better serve you. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

Very Truly Yours, Debra DeMars Community Manager

GEMS

Everyone had a good lunch at Nolan’s. It’s one of the last restaurants left on Canandaigua Lake due to all the development. The “Hot Cara-mel” Sundaes at Tom Wahl’s were especially fun! Last week, several of us took the lunch cruise on the Canandaigua Lady. The day was perfect and the views beautiful. Rumor has it that one of the big mansions be-ing built is owned Kenny Chesney...

September 20, we will be eating at Schooners. To reserve, call Kathy by September 18th at 924-5203.

RED HATS

Nineteen ladies enjoyed a deli-cious lunch at The Cheese-cake Factory. The cheese-cake was excellent, as was the

service by our 2 waitresses. We wel-comed Doris Powell who is new to Gyp-sum Mills to our group. Her mother-in-law, Shirley, who was visiting from Can-ada also joined us.

This month, we will be going to the Back Nine Grill (formerly Maplewood Inn) on East Ave. Our hostesses will be Louise and Gail. Please call no later than Friday the 6th if you have not already signed up. We will meet in the parking lot at 11:20 AM to carpool. Hope to see you there. Louise: 398-7553 or Gail: 742-3048.

SEPTEMBER BREAKFAST

We will be serving breakfast from 8:00 - 10:00 AM on Sunday,

September 8th. No reservations needed ~ just come!

MENU - Pancakes, French Toast, Eggs (any style), Cheese Omelet

$.50 more, Bacon, Sausage, Toast (Whole Wheat or White),

LUNCH BUNCH

Our August Lunch at Pizza Hut turned out to be delicious! It was a nice change of pace for our group and we all had fun.

This month, we will be skipping Septem-ber’s meeting and will resume on Octo-ber 15 at 12:00 PM. October’s theme is Breakfast Brunch (main, side and dessert dishes to pass are needed.) Please call Julie Alfieri at 398-7314 by October 12th so she can coordinate the menu. Hope to see you there!! *Please call if you need a ride!

canasta group and a dominoes group. Please let me know if you are interested in joining either group. We'd be glad to have you! You don't need to know how to play to join us. We'd be glad to teach you! We will be going to dinner at the Cracker Barrel in Henrietta on September 16th. Meet in the parking lot at 5:30 to carpool or you can meet us at the restau-rant at 6:00. FIRST ANNUAL DRIVE-

IN MOVIE ~ A HIT!!

About 75 residents, kids and grandkids

attended, and enjoyed the perfect

weather, and the movie, “Mickey Matson,

and the Copperhead Treasure”. There

was an abundance of golf carts and lawn

chairs, and kids on blankets, way up

front! The co-op board served hots,

hamburgers, chips, popcorn, pop and

water, with a surprise of ice cream, part

way through the movie. Though many

offered to pay, it was the joy of the board

to thank the community for their support

throughout the year. Thank you to all who

served and set up, especially my ever

faithful Ken Ainsworth, and thanks to Don

Varner , for contracting Funflicks, who did

an awesome job. Andrew was very im-

pressed with us, and would like to return

again, with a bigger screen, for the same

price!

Until next time, Bob Tuttle

SPECIAL OLYMPICS,

A SUCCESS!

On Monday, August 19th, it was our pleasure to serve about 90 guests and volunteers, at Wind-ing Creek Golf Club, where we had a full field

of 76 players. They later came up to the Community Center for a full picnic sup-per, with hots, beans, salads, water-melon, ice cream, and of course, choco-late chip cookie, provided by our resi-dents. Sylvia Korn, and her helper, Gary Tatar, presented the awards. A sleeve of golf balls and a bag of candy were given by Morgan Management, who under-writes this great event every year. Thank you to Jay at the golf course, and all the great volunteers, especially all who served, set up, cleaned up, and all who made those delicious cookies! I am so blessed to live in such a giving and loving community. God bless you all! Linda Tuttle

POOL NEWS

The last day for the pool is Monday, September 2, Labor Day. We hope everyone en-joyed the season. We are all very thankful to our lifeguards Dan Shawn and Tessa Zavislan. The both of you did an outstanding job! Everyone wishes you the very best of everything! The two of you are definitely exceptional young people! We are going to miss you!!

I would like to give thanks to my crew for their loyalty and to Stan Austin for having the pool running functionally and for keeping it so clean. Thanks for a great job!

We need to pay tribute also two great guys that kept this pool going for many, many years. Al Froelicher and Mike Mc Mahon. Thank you so much for all your years of service to this community and for showing us how it needed to be done. Thanks guys! ~Diane Crego
