A Guide to a Career in Bachelors of Design Studies

Design studies is a non-studio course that addresses theory, ethics and practice of design. It enables

students to focus on a specific area of to put together two areas of desire. It teaches students to be able

to think strategically in complex situations and how to conduct thorough research. It equips them with

skills to engage in design thinking and practices that can be applied in social, ethical and environmental

context.

The school of design studies provides students with different disciplines that assist them to understand

and master design aspects of transportation, industrial and product development to help to prepare for

their professional careers in diverse design professions. These disciplines include: environmental design,

communication design, book and publication design, information design, package design, exhibition

design, user experience design, service design, design of apps and interfaces for mobile devices, design

for physical and digital environments, multimedia, video and motion graphics design.

Bachelors of Design Studies - It is a four year course that offers specializations of design such as

graphics, communication, environment and spatial design, textiles, ceramics, jewelry, media and

technology. The undergraduate program introduces students to areas of design focus, design for service,

transition design and design for social innovation.

This program has three specialties: Product design, Communication design and design of physical and

digital environments. The program is designed to help students respond to changing community and

educational needs. This is a program that fosters a spirit of inquiry and provides students with

opportunities to work within different disciplines and technologies. The program runs for 4 years.

Present yourself for a creative test (not all universities require this)

Masters in Design Studies - Two year course that enable students to acquire technical expertise

and leadership skills. The program integrates technology, design thinking, experimentation, strategy and

communication.

Eligibility

Must have done an undergraduate degree in design or completed a recognized bachelors

degree.

The above degree should have been passed.
