Plans Preparation

Procedures of Approving Programs and Study Plans in

Tabuk University 1- Programs and Study Plans Committee at the department submits its

recommendations about initiating, developing or freezing a program or a study

plan to the department council according to the conditions and forms followed

in the university.

2- Conceding the recommendations of the Programs and Study Plans Committee

and reviewing them carefully according to the conditions and forms followed in

the university, the department council makes the suitable decision.

3- Programs and Study Plans Committee at the faculty considers the

recommendations of the department council, then sends its recommendations

to the faculty council.

4- Dean sends faculty council recommendation to the vice-rector for academic

affairs to complete the necessary procedures.

5- Programs and Study Plans administration sends the suggested programs to

reviewers and provides the concerned department with reviewing results.

6- Programs and Study Plans Committee at the department studies the

recommendations and suggestions made by the reviewers and then make its

own recommendations.

7- Programs and Study Plans administration at vice-presidency for academic affairs

considers faculty council recommendations and sends it to the programs and

study plan permanent committee.

8- The programs and study plan permanent committee revises the

recommendations of the Programs and Study Plans Administration and sends its

own recommendations to university council for approval.

9- University council authorizes the programs and study plans in the light of the

recommendations of the Programs and Study Plans Permanent Committee at the

university. University council secretary send the university council decree to

Programs and Study Plans Administration at the Vice-Presidency for Academic

Affairs.

General Bases and Principles of Programs and Study

Plans Approval The following bases and principles are put into consideration when a

program or a study plan is initiated, developed or frozen.

1- The real need of Saudi community to the suggested program.

2- The harmony between program goals and the goal, mission, and vision of

the department, faculty, and university. Program goals should also reflect

the higher education philosophy.

3- Clarity of program goals.

4- Coping with modern international trends in the areas of specialties

offered by the program.

5- Benefit from the experiences of well known national and international

universities.

6- Specifying a code for each course of the program on condition that

coding goes in an ascendant way according to the different academic

levels.

7- Variety and comprehensiveness of program courses on both department

and faculty levels.

8- 8-course titles should not be repeated more than twice.

9- The study plan should include a wide variety of optional courses related

to the department or the faculty.

10- Course weight should generally be three hours but it can be more or less

than this in some faculties if there are certain justifications.

11- Number of credit hours necessary for obtaining the BA degree in the

faculties of Education, Arts, Business Administration, Domestic

Economy, Faculty of Sharia and Law, and Applied Medical Science

should be 132 credit hours, putting into consideration the special nature

of the faculties of Engineering, Medicine, and pharmacy.

12- Number of credit hours necessary for obtaining the community college

diploma should be 70 credit hours.

13- Number of credit hours necessary for obtaining higher diploma should be

30 credit hours.

14- Number of credit hours necessary for obtaining the MA degree should be

33 credit hours.

15- Number of credit hours necessary for obtaining the Ph.D. degree should

be 60 credit hours.

16- Decreasing the number of course prerequisites and offering a variety of

such prerequisites.

17- Only after 4 years or alternatively after the first graduation of students

studying it, can a study plan be developed.
