I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me on that day; and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love this appearing. The Word of the Lord. A. – Thanks be to God. RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Psalm 23) The Lord Is My Shepherd (Crimond - Sung)

C. – A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.

A. – Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; If there were not, I should have told you. I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am you may be too. You know the way to the place where I am going.’

Thomas said, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” The Gospel of the Lord. A. – Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. HOMILY (Please Sit)

PREFACE C. – The Lord be with you.

A. – And with your spirit.

C. – Lift up your hearts.

A. – We lift them up to the Lord.

C. – Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

A. – It is right and just. C. – It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,

always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord.

In Him the hope of blessed resurrection has dawned, that

those saddened by the certainty of dying might be consoled by the promise of immortality to come. Indeed for your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and when this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven.

And so, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and

Dominions, and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim:

A. – Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Page 12: A Funeral Mass for Winston John Chester

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II C. – You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.

Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the time He was betrayed and entered willingly into His Passion, He took bread and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying: TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

In a similar way, when supper was ended, He took the chalice and, once more giving thanks, he gave it to His disciples, saying: TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

C. – The mystery of faith. A. – Save us Saviour of the world, for by your Cross and

Resurrection you have set us free. C. – Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of His Death and

Resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Page 13: A Funeral Mass for Winston John Chester

Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring him to the fullness of charity, together with Francis our Pope and Greg our Bishop and all the clergy. Remember your servant Winston whom you have called from this world to yourself. Grant that he who was united with your Son in a death like His, may also be one with Him in His Resurrection. Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy: welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with blessed Joseph, her Spouse, with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Through Him, and with Him, and in Him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is yours, for ever and ever.

A. – Amen. COMMUNION RITE THE LORD’S PRAYER C. – Let us pray with confidence to the Father in the words our

Saviour gave us;

Page 14: A Funeral Mass for Winston John Chester

A. – Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

C. – Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously

grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

A. – For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever.

SIGN OF PEACE C. – Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I

leave you, my peace I give you; look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant him peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever.

A. – Amen.

C. – The peace of the Lord be with you always.

A. – And with your spirit.

C. – Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

COMMUNION C. – This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the

world, happy are those who are called to His supper. A. – Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my

roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. COMMUNION MUSIC Here I Am Lord PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION C. – Let us pray. Lord God, whose Son left us, in the Sacrament

of His Body, food for the journey, mercifully grant that, strengthened by it, our brother Winston, may come to the eternal table of Christ. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Page 16: A Funeral Mass for Winston John Chester

FINAL COMMENDATION C. – Our brother Winston has fallen asleep in Christ.

Confident in our hope of eternal life, let us commend him to the loving mercy of our Father and let our prayers go with him. Winston was adopted as God’s son in Baptism and was nourished at the table of the Lord; may he now inherit the promise of eternal life and take his place at the table of God’s children in heaven. Let us pray also on our own behalf, that we who now mourn and are saddened, may one day go forth with our brother, to meet the Lord of life when he appears in glory.

SONG OF FAREWELL C. – Saints of God, come to his aid! Hasten to meet him, angels

of the Lord. A. – Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High. C. – May Christ, who called you, take you to himself;

may angels lead you to Abraham’s side. A. – Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High. C. – Give Winston eternal rest O Lord, and may your light

shine on him forever. A. – Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

Page 17: A Funeral Mass for Winston John Chester

Holy Water The celebrant uses holy water as a reminder of Baptism. C. – When Winston was baptized, he was baptized into the

death of Christ. The Father has raised the Lord Jesus from the dead, and we too have been raised in him to live a new life for God. Through baptism, we have shared in the death of Jesus in order that we may also share in his resurrection.

In memory of our baptism, we use holy water, and call on the Lord Jesus to welcome Winston into the glory of eternal life.

Incense

C. – As a sign of respect for the body of our brother Winston, we incense his body. Incense is also a sign of our prayers rising heaven.

COMMENDATION C. – Into your hands, Father of mercies, we commend our

brother Winston, in the sure and certain hope that together with all who have died in Christ, he will rise with Him. We give you thanks for the many blessings, which you bestowed upon Winston in this life: they are signs to us of your goodness and of our fellowship with the saints in Christ.

Page 18: A Funeral Mass for Winston John Chester

Merciful Lord, turn towards us and listen to our prayers: open the gates of Paradise to your servant Winston and help us who remain, to comfort one another with assurances of faith, until we all meet in Christ and are with you and with our brother, Winston, forever.

Winston, go forth upon your journey from this world in the name of God the Father who created you, in the name of Jesus Christ who died for you, in the name of the Holy Spirit who shines through you. May you rest this day in the peace and love of your eternal home.

Eternal rest grant unto Winston, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

A. – Amen.

C. – May Winston’s soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

A. – Amen.

C. – In peace let us take our brother to his place of rest.

A. – Thanks be to God. RECESSIONAL MUSIC How Great Thou Art Pall Bearers: Chrystal Chester Warren Chester Donna Ammouchi Sam Ammouchi
