A Friend Of Publicans And
Sinners
John 15:13-15
At The House Of Matthew {Levi}
(Matt. 9:9-13; Mk. 2:14-17; Lk. 5:27-32)Matthew {Levi} was a publican (v. 27)A big reception [dinner} held was at
Levi’s house (v. 29)Jesus was there (Matt. 9:10)
The statement is a complaint (v. 31) Jesus was eating with publicans and sinners Was that wrong? Not really, but it was something the scribes
and Pharisees would not do
Matthew (9:13) interjects a statement from Hosea 6:6 before “I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (v. 32)
These are the very ones with whom He should be dining
Questions: Are there those who decide there are some
folks who do not need saving? Are there those who would not speak or
associate with certain people? Are there people who claim that what
everyone ought to be doing is somehow wrong?
(Related to the other three) Am I one of them?
The Children In The Market Place
The Children In The Market Place
(Matt. 11:16-19; Lk. 7:31-35)A comparison is made (v. 31)To children playing in the market place (v. 32)John the Baptist (v. 33)Jesus (v. 34)Wisdom {mind of God} is
vindicated by her children {those who obey His will} (v. 35)
Questions: Are there people who are not satisfied with
God’s will? Are there folks who see error in all others,
but none in themselves? Are some people able to dismiss others out
of hand? (Related to the other three) Am I one of
them?
