Email

Protocols

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Determines which paths an email message takes on the Internet.

POP

Post Office Protocol.Handles incoming messages.

IMAP

Internet Message Access Protocol.A protocol for retrieving mail messages from a remote server or messages that are stored on a large local network.

MIME

Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension.Protocol that specifies how to encode nontext data, such as graphics and sound, so it can travel across the internet.

Software that requests mail delivery from the mail server.

Email Address

• Unique ID of an individual or company on the Internet.

Username

The name a person goes by with his/her email address.

Contains Info about the message.
