SYNOPSIS & PITCH
Gaston gets hired as an intern in a successful startup whose motto is "make the useless useful". He alternates between phases of extreme laziness, when it is near impossible to wake him up, and hyper-activity, when he creates various machines to improve the quality of life in the working environment, especially for Mademoiselle Jeanne. Common sense however always eludes him, and he has an almost supernatural ability to cause disasters... Which obviously drives his boss Prunelle crazy!Of course, his going to the office with his cat, his seagull and his goldfish in a car of the 1920's powered by solar panels doesn't make things easier... risking to jeopardize the future of the company, will he be able to put his genius at work to save it?
Gaston might just be the clumsiest and yet the most endearing character you have ever met. Each one of his moves is a unique sketch. He lives in a world of his own, with his animal friends who will be brought to life in VFX!
Producer Romain Rojtman (Serial (Bad) Weddings – Woldwide BO over €142M!) and director Pierre François Martin-Laval team up again after the box-office-sensation Serial Teachers 1 & 2 ( €50M BO in France) to bring one of the most loved French comic books of all times to the big screen.
Carrying the same values of green-attitude, pacifism and goodwill as in the original comic, this new Gaston 2.0 and his everyday life made of gags will bring us on the most hilarious adventure of all!

THE DIRECTOR
“ Gaston Lagaffe is one of the heroes of my childhood. Ever since I was a child, I’ve felt close to him and realize that today his creator Franquin’s gags are still an inspiration to me. We’ve been working with the generous assistance of Franquin’s editor and heirs. Since the mark he has left is still very strong, I want to take as little liberty as possible with his universe.
We decided to set the film in the world of today, where the Spirou magazine offices have become a start-up that recycles useless unsold copies. Gaston will embodies the same themes: pacifism, ecology, antimilitarism, the triumph of the advertising world, developments in the working world, males/female relations, resisting a kind of hollowness often disguised by false emergencies.
Around him, we once again find Miss Jeanne, Lebrac, Bertje, Boulier, Miss Sonia, etc.Not to mention Gaston’s menagerie: his cat, seagull, goldfish and cow, reworked in VFX 3D thanks to the talent of Illumination/Mac Guff.
The film will be burlesque, abundant in gags, and very visual. All the stunts and pratfalls that can be done live will be performed live. To do so and to provide a background for the catastrophes provoked by Gaston, director of photography Régis Blondeau (Serial Teachers) and production designer Franck Schwarz (Serial Teachers) have created a space and stage directions that allow for the greatest freedom of movement.
Gaston may be lazy, but no other comic was ever as dynamic, bursting with so much movement and rhythm, so many interjections and such graphic gusto. In the comic, there were lots of bright, primary colors. We will try to imitate that.”
