CERTI-CRIMP Hand Tools are top-of-the-line, premium, hand- operated tools for crimping a broad array of terminals, contacts and special wiring devices available from Tyco Elect ronics. They are designed to exact ing specificat ions to produce consistent, high-quality terminat ions. A potent ial service life of over 50,000 cycles is possib le,depending on operator care.

Other features include insulat ion crimp adjustment for d ifferent insulat ion thicknesses, a locator for properly posit ioning and support ing the terminal or contact in the tool, a w ire stop, and color coding and/or wire size informat ion on the head of the tool or on the handles.

All CERTI-CRIMP Hand Tools feature the reliable ratchet cont rol. The ratchet w ill not release unt ilthe handles are fully closed and the dies bot tomed. This helps eliminate part ial crimps.

1.3 SDE Premium Crimp Tooling

SDE (Standard Die Envelope) is a new, f lexib le approach to crimp tooling, that allows use of the same dies on tooling across a range of applicat ion platforms. Dies are interchangeable in tools from portable hand tools - manual or battery-powered - to pneumatic hand tools and elect ric bench terminators. It is a family of tools that you can take from bench to product ion or into the field, w ithout the need for dies fit ted to each kind of tool.

You can be sure your dies will fit your long-term needs,because they are completely compat ible w ith all tools in the SDE system. They move w ith you as your needs grow.

Part No. 354940 -1The PRO-CRIMPER III Hand Tool combines the versat ilit y of general purpose service tools w ith the reliability and ease of use of many premium grade tools. It is ideally suited for R&D prototyping, net - working applicat ions, and commercial, indust rial, and inst itut ional maintenance work. The precision design and manufacturing techniques that go into this tool ensure reliable, repeatable performance. The new handles and head design result in increased usable lifecycle.

As part of the SDE familyof tools, the system accommodates dozens of interchangeable dies in an ever-expanding range, including those for open-barrel contacts and terminals. Many die sets have mul- t iple cavit ies for crimping more than one wire or terminal size at the same t ime.

The tool is constructedof durable high-carbon steel w ith ext ra st rength p ivot p ins, for maxi-mum reliabilit y and long-life preci-sion. Locators are included w ith pin-and-socket style tools. They help properly locate the contact in the d ie set , provide a w ire stop, and help minimize contact rotat ion and bending during crimping.

User convenience andcomfort features are evident through- out . User-adjustable ratchet cont rol is provided for complete crimp cycling that helps elim inate part ial cr im ps. A n em ergency rat chet release allows the user to open the tool jaws at any time during the crimp cycle. To reduce handle force, the linkage was designed to match the forces required to crimp our largest insulated terminal. The result is drama- t ically less hand force than com- parable tools. The angled head and specially designed handles providecomfortable operat ion.

Tyco Electronics cont inues the quality t radit ion of AMP crimping tools w ith a new line of industry- standard 68,950 kPa [10,000 psi] hydraulic compression crimp heads, pumps, and interchangeable U-dies. A new battery-powered pump and tool opt ions provide unprecedent- ed portability for any crimping applicat ion.The U-dies, made w ith the AMPdesign precision and performance you have come to expect, are well suited for applicat ions requiring acrimp force of up to 14 t [125 kN] .For w ire sizes requiring more than14 t [ 125 kN] , Tyco Electronics offers five heavy-duty AMP crimp head configurat ions that are compatible with shank dies.There are four light-duty crimphead options, including three in the U-die format. U-dies are available in two types, w ith 25 mm [1 in] and 38 mm stroke [1.5 in] , respect ively. The two 12 t [ 101 kN] head opt ionshave 25 mm [1 in] stroke. The 14 t [ 125 kN] head is for largerproducts that call for a 38 mm [1.5 in] stroke. Also available is an integrated head/die for crimping #8 to #2 SOLISTRAND terminals. The heavy-duty heads are available in five different configurat ions.

Note: These heads are not compat ib le w ith 8,20 0 psi [ 56,540 kPa] tooling.

The basic 68,950 kPa [10 ,0 0 0 psi] hydraulic tool system requires a pump, hose (mult ip le lengths are available w ith all configurat ions),crimp head, and crimp die. There is a Tyco Electronics hydraulicpump to meet the demands of any crimping applicat ion. For maximum portabilit y, the hand-held crimping tool w ith rechargeable bat tery is an effect ive solut ion.

Most premium tools and some commercial tools can be economically serviced and repaired. Our tooling Service Cent res hold spares for all commonly used tools along w ith the specialist equipment and skills required to re-calibrate after repair.

Tyco Elect ronics recommends that for hand tools acalibrat ion check is carried out every 6 months or every 5,0 0 0 crimp cycles, w hichever the sooner.

We calibrate and provide cert ificates for the follow ing Tyco Elect ronics / AMP equipment :

Tyco Elect ronics uses crimp height as the primarymeasure of crimp qualit y integrit y, and does not recognize pull-off values alone as a measure.

2.2 Cut t ing and St ripp ing Machines

KAPPA family st ripping machines are ideal for cut t ing individual and special w ires to length and st ripping them. They can st rip in sect ions, allow ing them to st rip even ext remely long lengths in perfect qualit y. The machines cover an ext raordinarily broad range of cross sect ions. KAPPA 220 , 225, 235, 330 and 350 st ripping machines support a variety of processing opt ions such as w ire marking w ith hot -stamp or ink jet markers. Hot stamp marking can even be done on the KAPPA 210 machine, the ent ry-level model. Many w ires outside the indicated cross sect ion range can be processed on the Kappa machines. Certain ext remely hard, tough w ires may not be able to be processed even though they are w ithin the indicatedcross sect ion range. In case of doubt , we are happy to produce sam-ples of your w ires.

Resistance MeasurementsThe range of test systems can be supplied in three formats either 2-wire,4-w ire, or a Dual systems capable of performing both 2- and 4-w ire measurement . The fundamental d ifference is explained as follows:

2-W ire MeasurementThe 2-w ire technique is typically used in automot ive w iring, computer cables and other low specif icat ion applicat ions to verify that an item is w ired correct ly and not to verify the integrit y or performance of a cable. W hen measuring low resistance measurements using the 2-w ire technique, the test lead or test interface w iring w ill be in series w ith the device under test . W ith a constant test current of 1 A f low ing through the circuit a Volt drop of 6.010 V is measured, therefore d is- p laying a resistance of 6.01 Ohm. All contact resistances and test lead resistances are added into the test value. In this typical example the measurement error is >60 ,0 0 0 %.

4-W ire MeasurementThe 4-wire measurement technique is found in some higher specificat ionATE, more commonly know n as Kelvin measurement . W hen measuring low resistance measurements using the 4-w ire technique the test lead or test interface w iring w ill be automat ically nulled out . W ith a constant test current of 1 A f low ing through the circuit a Voltdrop of 0.010 V is measured, therefore displaying a resistance of 0 .01 Ohm.

Most Aerospace and Defense companies have adopted the 4-w ire cont inuity measurement technique as the indust ry standard.

A reliable terminaton includes: Good Elect rical Performance, Cross-Sect ional A rea Reduct ion, and Mechanical St rength.

Terminat ion Quailt y is determined by measuring the Crimp Height of the crimped terminal. The proper crimpheight , accompanied by careful visual inspect ion, assures that the terminat ion w ill meet or exceet specif ied requirements, provided that the w ire and tooling beeing used are correct .
