A day in the life of Yunely, a middle level student in

Nicaragua

Hello, my name is Yunely. I am 13 Hello, my name is Yunely. I am 13 and I live in Managua, the capital city and I live in Managua, the capital city

Luckily for me education is free and compulsory here in Nicaragua and because I live in the capital city I will also have the opportunity to go to University or College. My cousin, who lives in a more rural area, outside Managua, does not even have access to primary school. He works in the fields with his family all day and he is only 11 years old.

Baseball is the most popular sport played in Nicaragua, followed by boxing. Football has gained popularity recently, as well. My friends and I play all of

these sports in our free time.

My favorite meal is Gallopinto, which is our National dish and which consists of red beans and rice.

CUISINE

Nicaraguan culture has strong folklore, music and religious traditions, deeply influenced by European culture but enriched with Amerindian sounds and

flavors. I love to attend the Palo de Mayo festival in May, the music is loud and the

colors are bright!!
