Beautiful - !e Carole King Musical is so much more than a celebration of King but an opportunity to take a walk back through my musical childhood. !is show represents a period of change, the ripples of which are still felt today. !e term “musical” is applied to thisproduction because there is song and dance but this really is one hell of a book, with characters whose story arcs are as complex as they are signi"cant. A#er the original production, I was in-spired to look at the music of the era and see how closely linked it was to the politics, fashion and attitudes of the ‘60s and early ‘70s. Cue Summer of ‘69, a cabaret that Davine Productions presented in February. As I type this, we are all on tenterhooks, wondering if opening night will ever happen. If you are reading this, chances are it did! !is past 18 months of the pandemic have tested the mettle of everyone and the arts have su$ered greatly. Never has there been a more important time to “Get up ev’ry morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart”.DAVID GAUCI Producer/director Davine Productions
