A computer software also called program or a series ofinstructions that tells the computer what to do and howto do .

A program is a series of instructions that enables the

computer hardware to work.Software can be categorizes as

(1)System software

(a) operating system

(b) utility program(2)Application software

System software :Background software that includesprograms that helps the computer to manage its own

internal resources

The collection of programs that controls the basic

operations of computer hardware.

Its two types are (a) Operating system (b) Utility program

Operating system :a set of programs that coordinates all

the activities among computer hardware devices .it

allows users to run application program.

Utility program: A small program, or set of smallprograms, that supports the OS by providing additional

services that the OS does not provide. Some services

they commonly provide are: disk backup, disk

optimization, file recovery, safe formatting, andresource editing, etc.

Application software :Application software consists of

programs that perform specific tasks for users.
