CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION CANADA REQUIREMENTS(For the Live In Caregiver Program)

Page 2: A-CLASS NANNIES & CAREGIVERS INC Application Form.doc  · Web viewAll foreign workers must obtain full time and live-in position. It is VERY IMPORTANT to notify A - Class Nannies

This is the most important part of your application. You CAN NOT apply if you do not have all of these four basic requirements. Your application will be refused if you do not meet all of these requirements.

APPLICANTS DIRECTLY FROM THE PHILIPPINES: We are very sorry; currently we are not accepting application from Philippines due to long processing times. You may contact our office to learn more about other options.

Live-in Caregivers interested in the program must meet the following three requirements to qualify:

Please put an “x” or check the box if you have the requirement:

1. Successful completion of the equivalent of a Canadian high school education. (Minimum of 72 Units in College Education)

High school in Canada is up to Grade 12 which means at least 2nd year College in some countries. Undergraduates in College, make sure that you have completed at least 72 units. Below 72 will not

be accepted. If you have completed only 10 years in school (example: 6 years in elementary and 4 years in high

school), then you do not qualify. You still need 2 more years in College or the equivalent of minimum of 72 units.

2. You must have six months of full-time training in a classroom setting -- or-- twelve months of full-time paid employment, including at least six months of continuous employment with one employer in a field or occupation related to the job you are seeking as a live-in caregiver. You may have gained your training or experience in areas such as early childhood education, geriatric care, pediatric nursing or first aid. You may also have completed your training as part of your formal education. This experience must have been obtained within the three years immediately prior to the day on which you submit an application for a work permit. (In short, you must either have 6 months training or 12 months of full time employment)

For the Training:

FULL TIME CLASSROOM TRAINING. Not part time or evening or weekend classes only. Must be whole day at school. No Short Cuts. Canadian Embassy will know if you did not actually take full time training. Please make sure that the training school is recognized by the Canadian Embassy. Contact the local office responsible for accreditation of training schools in your country. DO NOT CALL THE CANADIAN EMBASSY. DO NOT ASK THE TRAINING SCHOOL AS WELL, because they will say they are accredited even if they are not. So for your own protection, please check before you enroll.

o FOR PHILIPPINES APPLICANTS, please contact the nearest TESDA Office in your region before enrolling. You can check their site at WWW.TESDA.GOV.PH

For Your Employment Experiences

Must be a minimum of 12 months in paid full time employment, with at least 6 months with one employer. You should be able to provide proof of this employment (Tax, pay stubs, contracts, etc.) to eliminate bogus/fake employment.

3. Ability to speak read and understand either the English or French language at a level sufficient to communicate effectively in an unsupervised situation.

4. You must have a written employment contract between you and your future employer. The contract defines your job duties, hours of work, salary and benefits. The contract also reinforces your employer's legal responsibilities to you. This requirement helps provide a fair working arrangement between the caregiver and the employer and provides both parties with a clear understanding of what is expected of them.

7. Canada follows certain regulations or labor standards, to protect the rights of employers and employees. Most of the cases, this system is being abused. If there are issues between you and the employer that should be discussed or resolved inside the household, or you have concerns about your work or employer, do you think it is proper to tell or discuss it to your friends or relatives, or let them get involved? What should be the proper way to resolve it?
