Course Introduction CompTIA A+® certification is recognized internationally as proof that the certified person has a broad base of knowledge in hardware and software technologies equivalent to 500 hours of hands-on experience as a computer technician. The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) is an organization whose mission is to advance the growth of the IT industry through standards, professional competence, education, and business solutions. A+ Certification requires passing two separate exams: A+ Core Hardware and A+ OS Technologies. These two exams are designed to demonstrate that the exam-taker has the practical skills of a PC technician with six months of experience.

2. What is ESD? What does it do to your computer and how do you guard against it? [System Unit/ESD, ESD Wrist Strap, Antistatic Mat, Other ESD Prevention]

ESD is electrostatic discharge. ESD is deadly to computers. To guard against ESD, use an ESD wrist strap or an antistatic mat. These make your electrical potential the same as the case itself, so when you touch anything inside the case you won’t create ESD.
