Course Introduction CompTIA A+® certification is recognized internationally as proof that the certified person has a broad base of knowledge in hardware and software technologies equivalent to 500 hours of hands-on experience as a computer technician. The certification is viewed as the perfect entry into an information technology (IT) career and as the foundation for earning more advanced certifications. CompTIA A+ certification is recognized as the industry standard in vendor-neutral certification for computer technicians, and major companies include CompTIA A+ certification as part of their certification tracks. What is CompTIA? The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) is an organization whose mission is to advance the growth of the IT industry through standards, professional competence, education, and business solutions. CompTIA serves as the industry’s largest supplier of vendor-neutral IT certification exams, such as A+. CompTIA works closely with a group of industry experts to provide the resources and subject matter necessary to build its exams. What is the CompTIA A+ Exam Like? The CompTIA A+ exam is a computer-based test (CBT) with two parts: A+ Core Hardware and A+ Operating System Technologies. Each part has about 80 questions, and exam-takers are allowed 90 minutes to complete each part. For additional information on the CompTIA A+ exam and its objectives, visit www.comptia.com.

Using this Workbook

In this training, students will study the topics covered in the CompTIA A+ certification exams. The training covers each objective of each exam domain (shown in the following pages). The outline for each session of training is included in the next several pages to give you an overview of the training content and to help you structure your lesson plans. The content, delivered by an industry professional, is the most up-to-date, comprehensive content available. You will find this presentation to be thorough and engaging as it prepares your students to pass the exam. The exercises in this workbook are intended to supplement your students’ learning. These exercises have been constructed with all A+ objectives in mind and will greatly aid your students in their certification preparation and content retention. The exercises in this workbook include the following:

• Study Guide – The student completes a comprehensive fill-in-the-blank exercise while watching each session of the training. Each Study Guide follows the instructor, and the Study Guides can be used as a review for the training Pre-Tests and Post-Tests and for the certification exams. Students may find the blank space left in the Study Guides to be useful for taking notes.

• Glossary Crossword and Glossary Word Search – The terms used in these puzzles are taken directly from each session's glossary. The puzzles are intended to help your students become more familiar with the terms found in each session.

• Short Answer – Some sessions include writing exercises that require students to explain in their own words a key aspect of the training.

• Quizzes – These additional quizzes will help you gauge your students’ progress. They also provide your students additional preparation for the training Pre-Tests and Post-Tests and for the certification exams.

Also included are 12-, 16- and 20-week sample study plans. In the sample study plans,

LearnKey training segments are underlined. Activities are italicized. Training Pre-Test and Post-Tests are bolded.

These workbook exercises, used in conjunction with the LearnKey training, will give your students the best learning experience possible and will ensure that they are well prepared to pass the A+ examinations.
